The server curse

I don't know what it is. Everytime I setup a server (4 times now in the last 2 years) the first try always bombs. I have no f**** idea why cause I do everything the same the second time but it works perfect. Just like with this one.. When I tried apache2 it would start using 100% cpu after 2-3 hours and crashed apache. Tried apache 1.3 and the same thing, but 4-5 hours. Then tried Pi3Web, seem to work ok but was really slow serving pages. Shortly after the install and configure I got a call from chief ADFP saying that he was still seeing the 'welcome to pi3web' page after a while of trying to access the site (thank chief). I could see the website fine but he still saw that page.. So that didn't work..

So I gave in and tried IIS. But no, IIS would not load php correctly.. when I finally got it to mysql was extremly slow... but after the restore doing the EXACT same thing it was able to to load php with no problems, and mysql is snappy as ever. Next time I order a server I am going to just have them restore it before I even login to it.

The reason it took so long to restore is because the first hdd they used was bad... then the second one loaded windows wrong (just one of them weird bad installs you get once in awhile) and the last one (by then I was pissed and ended up getting discounts) windows loaded right along with IIS, php, mysql, ftp, etc etc.. So all is good.

At least I learned alot yet again. I now know how to setup a windows AND linux webserver. Windows is easier by a long shot because I get a GUI.

For all you out there, linux + ensim (ensim is a control panel)sucks donkey stuff.. Everytime ensim releases an update that has to be done for security (every month or so) something goes bad..

Anyways so that's why it was down. it's good to go now, all with the most current software .

Just putup a Fedora Core 4 Server, everything is ok besides my new domain -> myfedoraserver.com And FTP but thats easy to fix, need to reinstall proftpd.

Don't know about the domain though, might be because of its not been configured for long and need to propogate over the net, but it went fast the last time i did it with kallberg.org

I didn't notice much diffrence between rh9 and rhel3.. Then I went to rehl4 and it broke everything. Probably wouldn't be the case if I wasen't running the ensim cp. But I guess it's hard to notice a big change with a black and white command prompt..

Ah yeah then it would be harder to notice a difference

Just an update:

Everything is up (well not now as the server is shutdown) and working including domain besides mail, will have to reinstall postfix

The domain was just a thing that I missed out in my name server

Whats the server stats (novahq) and where did you get it from?
