University Assignment

Got an assignment in my New Products Marketing subject, our group thought of the idea of a Hometracking device where you can attach bugs to valuable items and if you lose them around the home you can track them down thru sound notification. We have to present a second concept presentation next week and i was asked to design a simple handheld device and wall mount.

Some things wrong with em but i thought they turned out nice.

Techies with too much time on their hands at work a jury-rigged product similar to that earlier in the year, dosent work great at any sort of range yet, but it works on the WLAN, so you can boot up any computer on the network and locate anything you want that has the device attached to it. Same guys rigged up a vending machine can delivery system for cubicle workers at a local company which was hilarious.

WOuld suggest possible a small QWERTY keyboard, either on the remote or a hit-with-a-stylus pda thing cause scrolling for text using the direction keys could be awkward....

Our concept design originally included a touch screen that could still work use a light pen of some sort could work well.

looks good and good idea

i take it thee 'bugs' need power as they make a noise? some kind of keyfob / keychain?

we had to do a similar project at university. we designed a 'DMD' - digital media display, which essentially was a portable unit with a screen and a large memory to store pictures from your camera or music or films. we reckon we could make a profit by selling them for a lot less than £100. today you can buy the same thing for over £300 :/ . i guess we had a real buisness opportunity there.

Yer bug units will most likely run on those small batteries that u find all small battery operated equipment, those little tablet batteries. The system makes noise as u get closer to the lost item, then to discover ur lost item u switch to Bug mode where the bug beeps so you can find it under clothes or anything else covering it.

Yer there are several forms of bugs,

1. Just placing them in items.
2. Sticks ons.
3. Magnetic.
4. Paper Clips for files and reports.
