'Abuse' Video Released

An urgent investigation into a video that appears to show British troops beating helpless Iraqi teenagers.

In the film, soldiers get four youths in headlocks and take them into an Army compound, kicking, punching and hitting them with batons. One can be heard pleading for mercy.

Pictures have been published in the News Of The World, which says 42 blows were counted in one minute.

The person filming the violence can be heard egging the soldiers on, laughing and shouting: "Oh yes! Oh yes! You're gonna get it," and: "Naughty little boy."

It is thought the tape - filmed during street riots in Basra in 2004 - had been screened at the troops' base before being handed over by a whistleblower.


Prime Minister Tony Blair has said he takes any such allegations seriously and they will be investigated fully.

An MoD spokesman said: "We are aware of these very serious allegations and can confirm they are now the subject of an urgent Royal Military Police investigation.

"We condemn all acts of abuse and brutality and always treat any allegations of wrongdoing extremely seriously.

"Over 80,000 servicemen and women have served in Iraq since military operations began. Only a tiny minority are alleged to have been involved in incidents of deliberate abuse."

Three British soldiers were jailed and thrown out of the Army last year for abusing prisoners at an aid camp in Iraq.

However, in a separate case, pictures allegedly showing abuse by UK troops published in the Daily Mirror were later found to be fake.

those behind the beating should be discharged asap, no doubt this will cause some crap towards the british forces, its a shame how a handful of troops can mess up a reputation

man i think it their way of life. they have a mean streak in them i don't mean a small one i mean it really big one.

i train with them in 1982 the things they do to each other in the airborne Edinburgh Scotland is a eye opener. i was shock what they did to a (Black) officer in the service made him wish he was dead they lay waste to him big time. poor officer was in the hospital for 3mo. i would say they are way above hardcore as it get maybe combatants to the max more like it even to each other. so they may loss it this is not a shock to me sorry i seen them inaction. they was punish to their military code of conduct.

don't care what other may think they do have a big mean stirck a mile wide. and what they do after hours is a shocking thing to see and learn from them! when they do after the work day is over with.

i know the british are rough (probably why they r one of the most respected armed forces)

when i was with some of them for a week i saw the "messing around" punching each other ect.. i can understand doing that to each other, or even adults, but dragging teenagers into the camp, and then beating them while the NCO watched and done nothing is unacceptable

yes i know what you mean, but i have to say if they came up to (Iraq's teenagers or people) them (the British troops) and bug them & spit on them they know better stay away from them British troops now on. they will not take it lightly. they will react to it to the extreme

will i seen them do worst then that in their barracks. when they was off work too.

What you dont see is the full before incident, If you look the soldiers coming back into the compound they have clear riot shields, OK they maybe teanagers but what did they do before this happend? is what I would ask.

You see all the stink in Isreal when a palistinian teenager gets killed, Yet if you watch the news you will see its those teenagers throwing the Bricks, Bottles, Petrol Bombs ect.

Just there is 2 sides to every story, But only 1 gets told.

yeah just seen the video.
it seems those guys were having a lot of fun causing a riot and thowing stuff at the soldiers just before they got caught.
