Soldier Killed In Iraq
Updated: 12:54, Sunday November 20, 2005

A British soldier has been killed in a roadside bomb attack on a convoy in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.

Four other British soldiers were injured in the blast, which is being investigated by the Ministry of Defence.

Iraqi police captain Mushtaq Khazim said a British vehicle was destroyed by the bomb but has no further details.

An MoD spokesman said: "We can confirm that there has been an incident involving British forces."

The dead and injured soldiers' families are being notified but their identities have not been released.

Britain has more than 8,000 troops in southern Iraq and has been the main ally of the United States in the war.

Basra is the main base for British forces and it has enjoyed relative calm compared to central Iraq, where insurgents are waging a campaign of suicide bombings and shootings.

The latest death brings the number of British troops killed in Iraq to 98.

to bad to hear, but theres 1 mistake in the news post.. Basrah is not the main base for UK troops, But Shaibah Logistic Base is.. But thats just to know.. Shaibah is approx 30 kilometers from Basrah.

good news is that the British troops, according to the Iraq government should be able to start pulling out by 2007

but the reality is, no matter how for or against the war/conflict you are, you have to realise they cant abandon what they started

i agree, but they still dont have their forces fully trained to handle the situation, they caused the problems (US, UK and allies), so im my opinion they can fix them, its like i want our troops home, but they are doing what they are trained to do, so complaining about their actions isnt right.. because they were trained to fight/protect, and thats why they are doing..

anyway, before this goes even more off-topic..
