heh this one is hard, china isn't a real threat today, Islamic Fundamentalists are, but china might become a greater threat then IF will be in the future.

China is a potential threat but...

They would not go to extremes like the Islamics do. If the muslims got a nuclear bomb, they would use it to blow something in the US up.

China on the other hand depends so much on the US that they'd be cutting their own throats if we went to war.

I think in the future China will be a huge threat.

On the other hand, its our fault as Americans that they are a threat at all. We're running our country into the ground so fast, we don't need any enemies to help that fact

Why is that everytime we need to have an "evil empire"?

I know the answer but I was wondering if you guys ever realized how the respective governments create this notion of "Good VS Evil" so the general population would concentrate on them instead of hard core issues like national debt, jobs, healthcare, education system...

China is only a threat because we depends a lot on the cheap things they make there.

Outsourcing is the worst thing you can do...if they cut you off from things you need it will hurt big time.

I disagree. All the general population seems to be worried about anyway is jobs, education, healthcare, and the national debt (in that order). Any enemies we might have, including terrorists, are all but out of the mind of the average citizen. That may pick up a little with Saddam's trial, but not much.

We as a people are quite fickle and forgetful, so things like a Chinese scare or Islamic terrorists are just flavors of the week. Everyone falls back on the old battlecries of jobs, educations, healthcare, and national debt.

Furthermore, we have no clue of the world around us. Our media doesn't tell us anything about it, nor does anyone try to turn us against a country. We're so isolated, we give no thought whatsoever to any outside country, except perhaps Canada, and even then...

I rarely watch local TV becuase all they are showing is some stupid run away bride, Jacko the Wacko going scott free and always incorrect weather...

No, but something you have to understand about the average American, they feel they must watch the news. They feel it is their duty as an American to do so. Their parents did it all their lives, their grandparents, and so on. Granted, the medium of news has changed, but it's been like that for at least a century.

I don't watch it for the same reason...there's no real news, just empty heads talking about nothing. But the thing you must realize is, the majority of Americans watch, believe, and mull over those empty heads. "If Peter Jennings says it, by God it's true, and that's what I need to know about the world I live in." That's exactly the mindset of most people here.

LOL! I know what you mean bud. News has become so politically correct and one sided in US that it is pretty useless to watch it.

I actually introduced BBC (www.bbc.co.uk) to my coworkers. Next day they were like, and I quote, "Man we been screwed by these channels here in US. Now I know what REAL news is like!!" All I did was noded

I still believe that we need to get out of "Evil Empire trying to get us" mode.

I think "Islamic Terrorist" represent a far greater threat to the U.S. and the Western world in general as their agenda is driven by hatred of Western culture and freedoms.
