How do you chang the name of a weapon?

Well why don't you convert them all and look in every one of them for weapon strings? Just open it up in Notepad, CTRL + F, and type in something like "M249" or something...

no you're missing the question........ I'm asking which bin file from the game should I convert?

the bin files in the download are only mission bin files....

I looked in the pff files and found a "Gamemus.bin" and a "menumus.bin".

neather one of them would convert......... and yes I decompressed them.

You don't need to decompress .bin files. Just extract them, and then use the BIN2TXT to convert it. If the converter's not in there I'll add it in a download on my site.

no no I have the converter.. I've had it for a long time. it's what I use in my maps.

but I was asking which bin file from the PFF files changes the weapon names..... but nevermind I found it.

gametext.bin is the file. isnt txt2bin and bin2txt made for BHD? try finding one specificslly usable with dfx

I found it. the converter does work on DFX. I successfuly changed the name of the saw. but I can't get any of the others to work

change the name of the m4 to m4a1 b/c the m4a1 is the one that has auto fire. the m4 has burst and semi

@ SgtDylan, it does work on JO/DFX. I use it all the time on DFX...

@ skinny, you said you couldn't get the others to work? Make sure you have the correct string. There's several weapon strings for each weapon. E.g. the SAW will have several strings on it for the HUD, menu, etc. That could possibly be why.

I heard you don't actually have to convert it back to .bin, and you can chuck the .txt in your game but just incase convert back to .bin still. Make sure it has the same filename and make sure the /d is run on your target line.

well you see the way I'm doing it is I'm placing it in my directory folder. so if there's an error in this one it will fall back to the one in the PFF files. BUT the one in the PFF files is the one I changed the saw name on(as I just found out today . so what I 4got ).

so I'm just wondering if there's an error in the directory bin file and it's using the one from the PFF files. there by keeping the saw named "M60" and fooling me into thinking it was working with the saw but not the other weapons.

if yer using the FwO raven pff editor and yer running win vista, run it in comaptibilty mode for win xp sp2 and admin mode. or else it will save 2 diffrent versions off the pff, one for xp and one for vista, but only edits the one for xp. so then the game uses te unmodified one for vista.

no I'm on xp (I hate vista! ) anyhow. I'll just play around with it. I'll post back here when or if I get it working.

o. i use vista and i had that problem.
