mysql user problem...

i have recently upgraded my server to Red Hat Linkux 9 and have had no major problems with it but for some reason my forum is not working... so i got to snooping around in config files and they were all fine.. so i download the upgrade files for it (even tho it was up to date it re installs and re configures) and it said the user i set did not have the proper privileges and to ask my administrator (me) to set that user to have the ALTER prev ledge.... SO i went to phpmyadmin and was looking at privileges and the user i set was the Main user (that has ALL privileges) so i dont know what the problem is so this thought came to mind..

ok here it is...

Thse user you have set in Settings.php does not have proper privileges.

Please ask your host to give this use the ALTER privilege.

Looks like Permissions Issue to me bud.

What I usually do is clear the password and user ID Do note down the Password and ID somewhere.

make sure the user has the alter privelages... you may think it has all of them but just double check to be sure

Make sure your grant the user the alter permissions, and also make sure you reloaded mysql (Home page when you login to phpmyadmin) after updateing anything to do with the users..


FYI the permissiosn and GRANTS are 2 diffrent things it seems.. I have to set both before a user gets permissions.

i think i found problem but dont know how to fix it...

when i manually start my server (the one with users) it says cant start another mysql daemon is running... how do i stop the other one? i did not know there was another one... RHL must have built in mysql because it was a clean install of RHL...

if your on XP just run: services.msc and then locate mysql

if running red hat go to (lets see if i can remember this) well i can't remember this without looking as what it says, but there is a menu that has another menu called server and in there there is a service thing (lol) where you can shutdown running programs, looks a bit like services.msc actually

Edit: Err check and its Hat -> System Settings -> Server Settings -> Services

ok i looked there that is a very handy application and there is postgre mysql (or whatever its called) but its turned off.. i did not see anything else... looked many times..

try ps in your terminal.
