Monitor problem for watchmen?
Well fellas, I have recently bought Watchmen: The End Is Nigh. I have brought this because games like Prototype, DarkSector and Farcry 2 run quite smoothly on my PC, so I took this game since it has lower requirements. I installed the game, but as I executed it, my monitor showed me 'Out of range' and somemore things were written like maximum resolution=1024x768. I could hear all the sounds but could not see anything. It looks like it is something in the monitor. So, I searched for a configuration file in the game directory to change the resolution and other things, but surprisingly there isn't one. My monitor is a 15 inch CMV CT-529A. Is the problem occurring because of my old monitor? Still, can anything be done to play this game?

Try this, locate the game's directory in program files.
Once there, find a file called MultiLauncher.exe AFAIK this should let you change graphical settings without having to start the game first. Then again I've never played this before. |

My graphics card is Gigabyte 8400GS. Operating system= Windows Xp and CPU=P4. I tried to execute Multilauncher.exe, but it showed me that an error occured and it needed to be closed. Will I now need a crack for Multilauncher.exe?

can you borrow a friends monitor really quick that goes to at least 1280x1024?
When a monitor says out of range it means the resolution is too high for it to display. Watchmen's default resolution clearly exceeds 1024x768. Once you have it open in a different display, you can turn down the resolution and then go back to using your own monitor. |

Ok, so here's the matter. I think the problem lies in my computer. When I install the game, while installing a small file with the extension '.ink', the setup suddenly bursts up with this error'IPersistFile::Save failed; code 0x8007007B
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.' However, the installation completes. Later, when I try to execute Multilauncher.exe , it says that the program encountered an error and it needs to be closed. Recently I took the game's installation to my friend's computer, who had a much better Monitor, but the setup in his computer ran without giving any error, and Multilauncher.exe also ran without any hiccup. So, clearly something is wrong with my own computer, but what is it? |

may I suggest going to your friend's computer and copying said .ink file and pasting it into your own directory?

Out of range is a video memory problem from my recollection

Out of range is what a vga monitor displays when the signal it's receiving is beyond it's range of resolutions.
sources: recent first hand experience with that. |

think maybe you can edited the cfg file, but that's a guess to change the resolutions setting say like 1200 x 768 wide screen, 1020 x 768 box screen
don't know were the resolutions setting be for that game offhand (file name) it be in. edit with notepad

Video card "out of Range" of Monitor
Just bought a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT 64MB PCI video card which has the Kyro chip. My KDS led monitor has no video except a box stating input is "out of range". The input is detected at 84 hrz. The monitor's range is 60 - 70 hrz. The seller says the card is capable of a range from 60 - 85 hrz. He told me to " clear CMOS and change settings in control pannel". I don't know how to clear CMOS. Please advise. Thanks. #2 Old 07-28-2004 Godataloss's Avatar Godataloss Godataloss is offline TechSpot Booster Location: Lorain, Ohio Member since: Oct 2003, 501 posts Your monitor cannot display the resolution or the frequency. Lower the setting to say 800x600 60hz and bump it up from there until you get the messaga again. #3 Old 07-28-2004 singwood singwood is offline Newcomer, in training Member since: Jul 2004, 3 posts Thanks Godataloss, but how does one lower the setting if the monitor is blank? #4 Old 07-28-2004 SNGX1275's Avatar SNGX1275 SNGX1275 is offline TechSpot Forces Special Location: Rolla, Missouri, USA Member since: Feb 2002, 10,561 posts System specs If you are running Windows XP press F8 right before the Windows screen would come up. Boot into VGA Mode, then you can set it to what your monitor can handle. This probably works for Windows 2000 as well. #5 Old 09-01-2006 |

Sorry people. I didn't have internet connection for a while. However, i updated my directx and graphics driver, and multilauncher.exe opened. I still have to run it in windowed mode, as it runs on 85Hz on fullscreen which my monitor does not support. Sorry for my stupidity.
