Dialogs files for old DF games
Where are the dialogs files for dflw/tfd/2 ??
I just got a woman speaking but i want the radio-voices style like in the missions. I already extracted all .pff files but i just can't find it. Luis.

of jeez thats a test of the memory, and this is for LW, never had df2...
In DFLW inside the pff there are 5 files with a .pdw extension, these are the files that contain the sounds. You add the file name minus the extension to one of the fields the general attributes screen of an *unlocked* med, which allows you to use the sounds from that file. To use the dialog, after you set the file as above, in events its If whatever THEN "play wave file ### Theres a utility that was made by Othello called something like Dialog Reference, this was an easy way to check out what sounds were in each file, I don't think NHQ has it but it would still be around. Hope this helps somewhat, It been a few years so the details are sketchy |

A long long time ago, but just for my own enjoyment, I never had the patience to perfect maps for publication.

Didn't Novalogic keep the DFLW sound files in the .dbf format?

Upon further review, DFLW voice-over sound files are contained in both the .pwf files and the .dbf files. The .dbf files are used by the game and also contain text messages and such. I'm not sure if there's currently a utility on the market that will let you decrypt them, but the Dialog Edit tool will let you create your own, which is how people achieve custom sounds and text messages in their missions.
The .pwf files, however, have been decrypted and can be worked with fairly easily. Use the PWFExtract tool to simply listen to each .wav file in the .pwf's. There is another tool (PWFEdit, I believe) that lets you edit existing .pwf's, but I doubt that will be of use to you. I'd grab links for the tools (I'm sure they're here), but I don't have time right now. Regardless of the file type, all you need to type in the MED is the file name, which will be something like DFDLGJA. Then in the events, you can simply call an event to play a sound from that sound library (they are referenced by #). I'll give a more detailed explanation later, but this should get you started.

I've discovered in the past that (in DFX2) you can trigger whole songs from individual area triggers directly from their properties sheet. Just can't remember the variable numbers

Ahhh, just noticed Luis' updated question. Do you mean you want to use the DFLW files in BHD?
If so, simply extract the .wav files you want from the .pwf files and then go through the process of putting them in BHD maps. I can explain more on that later if you need.
