Ive read this particular news paper report, and i remain skeptical.

Keep in mind, that since 2002, Abu Musab Al Zarquawi has moved most of his operation from Afghanistan to Iraq. If he had a nuclear weapon in his posession, it would most likely be kept close to him, in Iraq, not in Afghanistan. Secondly, the US and MNF control a majority of Afghanistan, and for Al Zarquawi to maintain a fairly large operation out of that country without anyone noticing is very unlikely. I mean the US is combing afghanistan and Waziristan with RQ-1's and Satellites 24 hours a day, they would most definately be able to catch on to something of this magnitude. Not to mention, there are most likely teams in place throughout the CENTCOM area of operations who are working to detect traces of WMD and related activities, with the use of Air sampling and radiation detectors. If they had some sort of nuclear device in their poessesion, we would most likely be able to get a fix on the radiation being emitted by it.

And lastly, Al Qaeda no longer has the Freedom of movement and logistical capabilities they would need to acquire a nuclear weapon and move it without being noticed.

If anything, what they have is a dirty bomb, which is nothing compared to some larger conventional bombs.

Im not overly concerned. its definately a possibility and a threat, and its threats like this that make non-proliferation and pre-emptive strikes and absolute must. You simply cannot take the risk of the most dangerous people on earth acquiring the most dangerous weapons and materials known to man.
