I have an annoying problem with my editors.

Firstly, I am running both games on Linux, and have been for the past several years. Both have run flawlessly, unless I run with a map that did not list the Mods required. But that's another story.

I have recently had a problem with creating events in the map editors. I select the event number to be created and create the "IF" condition. When I click "OK" to jump to the next option, the "THEN" conditions, the event panel dissapears and the map editor locks up. I have tried this proceedure with both the original editor and the upgraded editor.

This is not the first time that I have created maps.

Both games run through "WINE" (Windows layer). I am suspicious that the Wine application may have changed, as the same problem exists with Landwarrior.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I can no longer create maps or modify existing maps. Most annoying.

Problem solved.

Unbenounced to me, my machine had upgraded my version of Wine 1.2 to 1.3. Removed Version 1.3 and reinstalled 1.2. All is running as should be.

Can you run a Linux based "Virtual Machine" inside of Linux with WINE 1.2 installed and then keep your functionality for Delta Force Editors and be able to proceed to upgrade your Linux system running with WINE 1.3 as normal? Or until the WINE 1.3 drivers mature and the bug is fixed?

As an aside:
In the past I have seen Windows running inside of Linux!

Hm. A Virtual Machine. I had heard of them but have not tried any of them yet. I suppose I could run Windows via a VM and thus remove the need to run Wine of any version. But, for me, that would defeat the purpose of changing operating systems. I moved to Linux to get away from Micro$oft and the nasty bugs that it attracts. Unfortuneatly, most of the games I had purchased are Windblows based, and as a result, Wine is required to run them.

Thank you for replying and for your suggestion. I will look into a VM as a mater of curiosity. It may be nice to run a Mac OS etc.

Yes Johnno, and you can run Linux VM's inside Linux, One Linux version I know of is Ubuntu (Debian) and it is capable of running previous or same versions of itself within a VM or even multiple VM's at the same time depending on available memory which has to be shared out from the Host OS.
No need for Windows really, and that set up would let you run other new apps compatible with the new WINE.
The problem will be fixed though because it would not only be the editors that fail, there would be many other Apps crashing because of the same processing errors in WINE 1.3 causing the crash with the MEd's

I miss the older versions of Ubuntu (version Ubuntu 10.10 is my current OS - and has been since version 5.10). Not as "pretty" as the current versions, but more "user friendly".

I have installed Virtualbox (from the Ubuntu repository) and must wait until my cd/dvd burner is replaced. Poor thing curled up its toes and died. As soon as its replaced, I can try the older Ubuntu version or even Windblows XP or perhaps a Mac OS. In either case, I will let you know how it all goes.

No problem at all. Any troubles let me know as I have run VM's heaps of times and I am currently running a Virtual Desktop and Virtual CD/DVD/BD/BD-Re ROM emulations on Windows7

Have a look here...VMWare Virtual Desktop
Also Lookup Avast Virtual Browser
You could try running these with Linux inside a Windows Virtual Machine. Or use their virtualization options.

PS.
If the cloud isn't your thing you can still host Windows or Linux Virtual Machines locally for total security.
