Windows Vista vs. XP Gaming Part 1: DirectX 10
What exactly will you be getting by upgrading to Microsoft's new OS? More specifically, will the leap into DirectX 10 be worth it?
by IGN Staff February 28, 2007 - With every fresh Windows OS launch, PC gamers experience upgrade anxiety. And it's understandable: Windows XP is arguably one of the best Windows OS to date, and users have familiarized themselves with all the little tweaks to maximize performance (getting rid of the right background processes, knowing what Windows Registry files to trash). But with DirectX 10 gaming on the horizon, it's no longer a question of "if" but "when." But when pondering what exactly DirectX 10 will do for games, PC buffs are often left with abstract notions that "games will be better", hoping that their programs would somehow run smoother as well. And since DirectX 10 won't be available outside of Windows Vista, it takes more than nebulous hopes to compel discerning users to upgrade. So just what will you be getting with DirectX 10, and how does it benefit your gaming experience? The rest of the story at http://pc.ign.com/articles/767/767311p1.html
