Which way to code this template
Ive got to make a website for a 'mock' record label we're doing for an assignment. So i've come up with this template, but im not sure whether to use normal frames for the content area, or to use and iframe and then style the external pages. Also, it needs to be scrolling, so thats why i thought of using an ifame.

Looks really good.
You're almost done. Just try both techniques, and choose the best one. I have 4 sons, so I can't "do" your homework for you. ;-) But think about it for a second...if you need the content area to scroll, is there any other way to do that, other than using an iframe? Then you'll have your answer. :-) Great work!!!!!

I don't know how iframes are "bad".
Personally I'd use an iframe on that design.

You can even style the scroll bar areas in a style sheet to make it match the site design, although it will most likely only be viewable on IE.

Iframes are not considered proper XHTML Strict...not sure about regular frames. I don't think there is a problem with those.

Dunno what kind of time frame your on, but I would probably suggest redesigning it. If your going for a record label type website, it shouldn't look like an art site. Think I've seen a site with a similar design to this one for someone's portfolio on DA.
As far as using an iframe, do what would be easiest for you. After all, it's nothing thats going to get published anywhere and criticized for coding, right? Unless it's for a webdesign/coding class...then doing something that's appropriate coding :P

Well its not a real record company and as far as i know, its not going to get published on the internet. It's just to show that i have made a website that can be used for a record label. And as for the tables thing, thats more of a personal challenge ;P
And that portfolio you talked about was my inspiration ^^ i saw it and i had to have a go. Im coming up with a few designs so this isnt the final one, but i agree with EDGE that its too 'arty' for a record label. |
