The "malicious software removal tool" in windows 7
(It was also in Vista but I'm not sure about XP, I think XP had another spy tool for that...starts with a "W") It does the same... allow it???, select you updates manually. It doesn't check for 3rd party malware so much as double-checks windows is legal again and it checks the registry for verification codes for their other software. Then it checks all your drives and data including all your external drives. it's Up to you... |

Had a look at how to turn smartscreen off at the link you sent. Good but......
I wouldn't trust using any windows controls to do it. I would go to registry and services (msconfig if it still exists in windows8) or somewhere deep down to do it. Even use a live Ubuntu CD to remove certain critical smartscreen connection shtml, or xml, reg whatever, you can find it because windows is all still DOS deep down, even version 180,064 will be, they have trapped themselves in it, every version of windows ever made has traces and is still in there as placeholders, critical instruction data sets and basic programming that windows is built on. I was a beta tester for Widows 7 and they didn't like my report. |

RE: Malicious Software Removal Tool
If you have windows 8 you have both, you have the Smartscreen Filter and you will still receive the MSR Tool in an updated form periodically. This will occur during routine Windows Update Executions. When MSRT updates, and you set folder view to show hidden and operating system files you will see the folders and files created during this execution. You will see on each drive the temporary folders where the data is collated. For example a USB External Drive at E: would look something like this: E:\S-1-5-21-2454196541-2260248685-763231877-1002 |

Empty? mmm it seems to delete almost everything after checking like a temp folder but if you look with a partition tool or recovery scanner you may find otherwise...
