Port Forwarding

My bud is setting up a jo:e RAT server. (thanks to atholon for the previous thread and helping us on it). But It was said that you need to Forward the port you choose for the rat port. How would we do this?

And he doesnt have a router!

OK....lets do it the old fashioned way...

Go to Start > Control Panel. Find if it says switch to classic view on the left. If it does then click that.

Now find something that says network connections. Double click on that. Find something that says Local Area connection and double click on it. Click on the support tab and it should say the IP.

Well sometimes modems have built in routers...and they will forward ports...mine does. That is why I asked IP address. If it is not a 192.168 then he doesn't have to forward ports.

Is he running Windows XP sp2?

If so, the windows firewall could be getting in the way...

Go to network connections and right click on Local Area connection and then click on properties.

Click on the advanced tab.

There should be something there that says settings click that and there should be an option to turn ICF off.

If not then just uncheck where it says protect my computer.

To turn the windows Firewall off, double click the Red shield down by the clock on the system tray (When the mouse is held over it it says Windows Security Alerts).

Down at the bottem of the window that just opened Click Windows Firewall.

on the General Tab choose Off and click ok.

hope this helps,

Actually, yep.

What you said just takes him to the same window I just explained how to get too.

I don't think ICF exists any more with sp2. I think it got updated and renamed to Windows Firewall.

At least when I followed your instructions, I don't see an option to turn off ICF.

Depends on if you have Sp2 or not.

I am tempted to put it back on my machine...someone slap me and tell me no.

I must be doing some thing wrong because I have never had the problems that people have had with sp2. I have installed it on 3 computers with out a hitch.

Oh well
