There's a few options available for you depending on the editor and game version. WAC sounds, targets with effects assigned, sound objects, triggering internal music/sound vars, lists and probably a few more... I'd recommend you start with sound objects straight from the editor. Go to... Insert Mode: Markers: Find objects with prefix snd: and drop them straight into your map. Some are radial and some are directional and they're positioned by Longitude(X) Latitude(Y) and Azimuth as (Z) The above usage is height from the terrain at any given point of reference. Absolute Height or Absolute Z (AZ) is the distance from a median or constant level beneath the terrain or the centre of the earth if you like. So all heights in this mode are not relative to the terrain height. You need to take particular note of this when using Helicopters or building by numbers. So, if you happen to want a lot of atmosphere, place the sound markers strategically around the map or in a grid according to their use or intensity - you'll have to compile the map and jump in and test it during run-time to determine that. The sounds are permanent if used this way so if you want to control that, you'd have to use the more complicated method of triggering within the editor. If you use wac sounds they're played at the players' position and AFIK were controllable in most versions of the games but I don't think it works when scripting them in DFX2. Good Luck |

re snd volume
normally I use primarily the Nile.
I know that if I place a red pulsating light on a map it will be X bright. if I select it and copy past it , it will be XX bright or twice as bright. I assume that when I place a SND marker it is placed on the terrain surface so I am going to try to give it a little elevation if it will to see if that helps. the volume stuff in Nile does not work or maybe my numbers are too low...I don't know what the range min or max. I may have to do scripting or wac editing to get the results I want but I may need some examples. I thought about using the med to create a sound and see if I could mess with the volume there then copy past into the wac from my map. maybe a tutorial on scripting and wac editing in the wac editor would help.... I know their out there just like the truth....I have 6 to 8 new maps to put in a map pack and I would like to get this sound thing done cause I know it would enhance the game play...

Sorry to hear that B.
The MEd Saves backup files on the system drive root named, MEDP1BCK.MIS and MEDP2BCK.MIS. I don't know if NILE does that but if so, maybe they could cause strife with maps too, so if you find some NILE save files, after this event they may be corrupted. The NILE Has always been problematic for me so I use the MEd not the NILE. I do have some completed NILE maps (AAS) but I just haven't published them yet because they were made for NovaLogic and are for JOCAG only. I'l wait and see what THQ is doing before I decide what to do with them. Archived Files are generally safer than normal files for storage. Save your maps as ZIP archives (even on the thumb drive) to avoid system restore and other file mishaps. BTW I was going to tell you not to put objects exactly on top of each other and some need to be a certain distance away from each other or you could create leaks or worse. I crashed my system many times making the Grass Fire Bleed-out Demo. http://www.novahq.net/maps.php?ID=9703 |
