There's a free Home Edition on there.

Does avast has the same moronic issues as avg and norton? Like stay running in the background when you close the application and you cannot kill the system process because it keeps respawning itself?
And like in avg they have the safe surfing sheit, which blocks you form visiting some sites? ( no, not pron, but warez... ) If so it aint for me.. I just want a AV that does it's work when i say so, and not all the time...

Like sharp said you can turn of the service providers, which while the main application is still running, all the scanning and protection features are turned off. No, it doesn't block any sites, but as william said, it does scan all the sites you visit, and can catch the embedded viruses (found in the images for example). I have been using it for 2-3 years now and I love it. |

avast! is pretty good because it doesn't interrupt you when you're playing a game, and plus it doesn't install a million things on your computer like Norton...

one of the item Norton install or as shield was a scrip blocker i hate it why it make error using programs when ever i close out a program it make a error!
good sample: Microsoft Picture It! Publishing Platinum 2001 when i close that one item out get a error when Norton was installed into the system. can't say about today Norton but that was back in 2004... plus some anti-virus programs have fix's to remove a bad virus from your system! after the fact it got by the software, avast! block it before even it get into your system. thats what i like about. and the safe guards are great to cover you so many ways from getting a virus into the system

avast also has the ability to fix files once they are infected (just in case one does slip by) - assuming you have run the VRDB to generate the needed data

the best thing that i like about it, is it scans everything that you do and every site you fix like everyone else said, that what is cool about it
