That's a big quaestion. Operation Flashpoint is a modern war game but it's not a modern game, Rainbow Six series too. Modern war, not modern game.
A list of every game depicting modern war would be huge.
Doubtless someone will try.

it doesn't matter how old the game is as long as it's modern war.

and as long as it's nothing like vietnam. and as for the rainbow 6 stuff that's not war that's more like a swat team thing isn't it?

Yeah I wouldn't get it. it depends on how realistic you want it. ArmA didn't have realistic Graphics (the graphics sucked) but it had realistic game play. it was too realistic game play as far as millitary tatics and stuff.

on the missions you were eather riding in a dern truck or jeep for ten minutes before you could start you mission or you were fallowing orders through out the whole mission. I once won a mission even tho I didn't shoot or see anyone. there was no one shooting all you were doing it walking thru the streets fallowng orders that you couldn't even understand from other team mates. and if you were lucky enough to see a bad guy he would shoot you dead first shot anyway. and that was on easy skill level LOL.

so yeah don't buy it. big waist of money.

anyone whos tired of regenerating health in ever frikkin game available are probably hard core realists to the point that they do find Arma fun. im not tired regenerating health but Arma was a well spent $40 for me, the multiplayer has some excellent coop and new pvp modes.

Haven't played ArmA but I have OFP and I have played it. It's great. Well, it's the most realistic game I've played. I'll tell you, 90% of people will probably spit at the game, and probably hate it since it's sometimes frustrating.

When I mean it's realistic, it's realistic. Let's see, in a DF game in a single player mission, you kill all the AIs. In OFP, I find that if in every mission I only have killed like 10 ENEMIES, at most. When you play OFP or ArmA, you don't think of run and gun. And you need teammates. Without teammates, you might as well just kill yourself.

OFP was also turned into VBS1, and ArmA turned into VBS2.

VBS = Virtual Battlespace. A battlefield simulator that's used by the United States Army, and even the NZ Army.

I will tell you, OFP and ArmA are games that tell you that war is not all fun and games. Everyone at school wishes they were in a war blowing people up. Yeah, play OFP or ArmA and say that to my face.

OFP is the first game I've played where I want to avoid combat most of the time, because you know you're gonna get your ass shot up.

I'm not saying OFP isn't fun - it's a good feeling when you complete a mission, but I'm just saying that it's very different from other games.

@ mrg, RA1 isn't a modern warfare game and takes place in the 40s. RA2 takes place in the 70s, and Tiberium Wars takes place a few decades from now (2040-2050). Good list though.

Yep, Cold War Crisis is the one.

I've also played Resistance - its expansion. That was freaking awesome. I reckon the story was awesome.

There's also Red Hammer which I didn't bother playing.

I've been playing flashpoint for almost 2 years now. i can't get over it. it's really good. Mission editor is an awesome feature. The coolest part of it is the addons you can have. Many good communities and addon makers. And armed assault came out and it's insane-er! There are even better add-ons

yeah I'm not looking too much for "add ons". I'm looking for another game that's kinda like BF2. realistic weapon recoil, same gameplay, Great graphics (like Ragdoll and stuff), a realistic physics system for both objects and for vehicles.

I'd be cool if it had Ragdolls. the BF2 ragdoll graphics was sooooooooo funny!!!!!! LOL!!!!!! it was fun to shoot them off of a building and watch them hit every posable object sticking out from the building as the fell to the ground LOL!!! they would do all kinds of funny stuff.

I'm mainly looking for BF2 type of single player game play where it was all free style and not story based missions. the BF2 single player gameplay was soo funny and enjoyable. like throwing C4 under one of the bad guys and watching him fly strait up 100 feet in the air like a rocket LOL!!!!!!!

Or if you wanted to get serious it was great realistic action. never ending. all ways some kind of activity going on. till this day I still see it as the perfict game and I still haven't found anything I didn't like about it.

if anyone knows of a game close to BF2 PLEASE tell me. thanks

what I found most humorous in Arma when there was a lone enemy infantryman walking along and my teamate pulled out his at4 and blasted him, not only that but since infantry dont get ragdoll physics, his seemingly stationary looking body flew in the air laying flat, then smacked on the ground with that same flat look.

i think your are talking about battlefield bad company or somethin. it has INSANE PHysics and realism. it's for those BF2 kind of people except with kick-azz pc's of course.

yeah armed assault and flashpoint do have those annoying glitches. other than that i'm ok with it. BF2 is pretty funny with the bodies and stuff. this one time my friend showed me a screenie of how he managed to get an mec guy hangin from a traffic light with his head. it was hilarious.

it depends what kind of gamer you are. extreme realism or just for fun kind of games. I'm in for the extreme realism and sometimes i need a break like playing black hawk down.
