What happened?
We discovered that the lanmode= command in the dfv.cfg file adjusts the amount of data/packets transmitted per player between 4 modes (1,2,3,4) only when the server is configured for LAN IP in Session Type. There is no similar command to make this adjustment on servers configured as NovaWorld in Session Type. This is a server configuration that influences the players. Players cannot control the amount of data transmitted through this command. Measuring the amount of KBs transmitted under the same conditions, we tested the server in LAN IP in the 4 modes and the server in NovaWorld. We found that servers hosted in NovaWorld have the same amount of KBs transmitted as servers in LAN IP configured as lanmode=1 and servers in LAN IP with lanmode=4 have approximately 4x more KBs transmitted. What are we looking for? The intention now is to be able to change the game in some way so that we can adjust the amount of data transferred when the server is configured as NovaWorld. This benefits many players and allows part of the community that prefers to play on third-party software like GameRanger to come together in one place. BHD, JO and DFX seem to use the same base, so the same fix should benefit all 3 games directly. It's still possible that older DFs like TFD, LW, 2 and 1 could also benefit if the required change is the same or similar. If you are willing to contribute to this, post here or contact 51.pl, DUZ or Demonic directly on the BHD Community HUB discord server https://discord.gg/WKWKzVK8rP Below is a video with the full explanation and many in-game comparisons of lanmode=4 versus lanmode=1: https://youtu.be/_xTAA-xCzmo |

Wow, that's quite a difference. I don't remember back in 2003/2004 that the game was this laggy :S. Especially the part where you jumped sidewards. However the first one with the gun sounds, yes that has always been like that.
Wish I had the knowledge to help you guys out. I hope there are some left to support you. |
