Hundreds Trapped By Snow
Updated: 18:02, Friday November 25, 2005

Heavy snow has trapped around 2,000 children in schools across Cornwall and stranded 500 motorists.
The children are expected to stay in their classrooms overnight.
Around 300 children are trapped in Treviglas school in Newquay on the Cornish coast.
Parent Diane Chafer, said it was the biggest snow fall in the Newquay area since 1991.
"The problem is that the bus drivers cannot get in to drive the children home to the outlying towns and villages," she said.
"Some pupils will be spending the night in the schools."
The motorists are stranded on Bodmin Moor where an accident caused a six-mile tailback of traffic on the A30.
Efforts are being made to rescue the drivers with freezing temperatures and more snow forecast.
Some motorists are being taken to a reception centre.
Five inches of snow fell on the moorland on Thursday and Friday, closing Newquay airport and railway lines.
Snow fell on Thursday night though Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and South West England reported a spate of weather-related rescues and crashes on treacherous roads, despite gritters working flat out overnight.
A South Wales Police spokesman said conditions had been particularly bad in the valleys.
Lorry drivers were advised to avoid the Rhondda area as some roads were impassable due to thick snow and some smaller roads were closed.
In South West England, snow caused accidents and numerous road blockages, as well as a couple of trees down, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The cold has also prompted a surge in demand for traditional winter favourites such as soups, pies, casseroles, puddings, custard and hot chocolate, superstore Tesco said.
