Far Cry

Went out this weekend and saw Far Cry the game.. Decided to buy it since I played the demo and it was ok.. Well after playing for about 4 hours this morning I figured out this game ROCKS. I love it and it is well worth the $40 spent on it. It's a 5 CD install and the game is pretty big, but wow, I am very picky with my games and this one surprised me..

Anyone else have this game? Maybe show me a few tricks ..

just got a bit repetative for me :/ and too many silly monsters

its a nice insight into what games will be like - physics / graphics.

for me it needs more weapons, less monsters, less linear and have decent multiplayer but the vehicles are nice to play with.

I just started the simgle player level where I am in the tree tops.. the monsters are ruining it for me just like in RTCW .

Played some multiplayer eariler and it wasen't as fun as LW or SoFII, but it's something diffrent..

As far as the graphics... the guy at wal-mart said I would have to have a very high end computer to play. I guess I don't look like a computer guy so he thought he would warn me hehe I was like sure bud, I think I can handel it thanks. I play in 1024x768 with everyone on Very High and it's sweet as hell.. Grahpics are very nice.. Specially when you can see the island all over.. Beautiful! lol

Brilliant game . I played single player for a whole day! Loved the game. U say 5 cd`s? Gee lol mine was on 1 DVD disk. I Havnt played it much (Bf1942 and desert combat aswell as BHD are my main games at the moment).

Shame that u cant pick all the weapons in any order for exaple... Mp5 pistol then a 3rd item, ur limited and most u have to pick up.

As for tricks, i have no idea im rubbish online

Its an OK game.
Its like Doom3.
Looks great, lots of promise for the future.
Big bag of pants as a game.
Like Star Wars One. All those new special effects and so George Lucas tells a bab story.
Oh well.

yeah the single player is much better than the online play. Thats rare to b/c most games only concentrate on internet play now. so its good to see a good single player game.

Cool

I've had Far Cry for some time Panther and although the graphics are wonderful and this will be the way all games will be in the future it non the less spoils itself with the silly monster story line.

Very enjoyable to play on single player, not brilliant on multi but you can't have every thing can you?

Regards

Agreed... This and RTCW have great single player.. But loose the monsters...

I had a big smile on my face while playing this one untill one of thoes monkey things jumped on me.. was just like sh!t not again . Still think it's pretty good though, haven't played much in MP yet. Trying to get the hang of it in sp then i'll see what the mp is like when I can actually kill something .

I like how you are 'free' in this game.. I mean you can run around and hop all over and still shoot.. guess thats my kinda game.. The 3 games I know allow it are LW, Sof2 and this one.. Don't like things like quake and ut cause they are all monster types.. Don't like the games where I fell "stuck" cause I know if I was being shot at I would be hopping around and if I had a gun I would still be hopping . Don't like the idea of just standing there and saying "damnit i'm being shot at"..

That is the great thing about Far Cry you can wander around and do your own thing but alas as we've said the silly monsters spoil what could have been a classic game bro!

Warm Regards

does anyone else still think Far Cry is too linear?
i disagree about there being freedom to roam, ok it's not walled in and set in corridors, but you are restricted and have to go a certain way :/

guess i play too much Ghost Recon

Its is linear but the linear debate will rage on and on.
Until a game comes along where you can wake up in the morning and choose to stay in bed, whereupon you are sacked from the CIA, lose your income and end up on the streets, unless you go to the job centre and get work as a cleaner whereupon you find out the lord of the manor is up to something, but you decide to investigate his porn library and so miss the meeting where he organises to assassinate the president and have no idea how or why he is going to pull it off and continue working as a cleaner until something better comes along....
Unless games emulate real life, where you can miss things that enable you to achieve goals, where anything and everything you do affects everything subsequently, then no game is going to be anything but linear.
In games that appear not to be, all it is is that you can do 10 tasks in any order you wish in order to achieve the same goal.
The code will still be IF blah AND blah AND blah THEN WIN.

In Far Cry you could approach each objective in a number of different ways. You could run in like a screaming banshee, hide in the grass with a silenced weapon, stay back and snipe or in many cases avoid conflict altogether and sneak around.
With an engine like Far Cry I reckon you could have had adventure type go any where do anything (as long as you have the blue key at the end of it) but the game was a DVD release. I think they had enough on making it look like it did without getting free-roam down exactly right.

Promising for the future, but hardly the game of the century this one.

It is a Far Cry, (excuse that awful pun!) from a perfect game but it does allow you more freedom to roam as my good friend ZZA points out.

I know I harp on about the stupid "monster" story line which for me is the biggest problem I have with the game but, as new games go it is a very good game and does allow you to go about certain "missions" in a different way.

As to wether games will ever be able to emulate real life? Do we really want them to do that anyway? After all are they not designed to allow us to escape from the "real" world into the cyber world?

It's a fantasy world that allows us vicariously to do that which we would never even consider doing in real life and best of all no one gets hurt!

Regards

No I dont want a game that emulates real life. But one would have to be created before you could honestly call it non-linear.
Which is why the 'linear' sargument is a moot point.
Mankind travel in one linear direction thorugh time with no hope of changing the ending.
Even as we demand time beating games we live with the reality of linearity.
There is no such thing as non-linear so decrying a game as too linear is daft.
MAking out an objective based game is non-linear is even dafterer.

hmm i might have got the wrong term here :/

i don't mind there being objectives, that's fine

what i don't like is that you have to go specific ways, basically in Far Cry like most games you HAVE to go down that road, or you HAVE to go through that door.

you get the feeling you have freedom but you don't. try to sneak up a hill and you find you cannot walk up it, or try to sail around the island and the invisible helicopters of doom turn your boat into drifwood.

that's what i meant

yes you are right steve that u have to go down the road or through the door but there are mutliple ways to go. I have played missions over b4 and found new things and new paths to go. Ive found different guns and more ppl to shoot at. Different spots to sit and wait. So its not like your doing the same thing over but your are in general, just in a different way.

I am waiting for the new Far Cry to come out for xbox live. That games look very good. Looks better than the original Far Cry I think.
