Cry Any suggestions for severe back pain relief?

As some of you know I have a porblem with my spine and although I was supposed to have an operation on it I didn't due to circumstances beyond my control and now I'm at the stage where I can no longer have an operation as there nothing that can be done.

So any ideas anyone as I'm sick and tired of bloody useless painkillers that couldn't kill a gnat let alone pain!

Herbal treatment? Anything you can think of?

Regards

Steve

P.S. I've had a number of acupuncture treatments but they only bring temporary relief.

Do you have pinched nerves or vertebrate problems? I've heard of a new stretch therapy that stetches out your spinal columne and realigns itself upon reduction of the stretch. If you've got worn out discs you should be able to have surgery but I honestly don't know enough about it m8. I hate that you have to live with the pain. Why have the doctors told you surgery would do no good?

Ice pack lay face down on the bed, have your wife place the ice pack in a towel, lay it your area were it really painful, let it stay for 1-2hrs after remove it, stay there for another 30-45min then get up. work for me all the time.

i use a heated pad if it still hurts after 12hrs then instead of a ice pack.

i all so use 800mg IBUPROFEN for Painkiller tablet

Go to Walmart, WalGreens, anywhere really, and buy a heating pad, plug it into the wall and lay on it anywhere, works great. Also try the IcyHot Patches or rub on, those work just as good.

Ive recently suffered a back injury (torn disc and muscular damage).

If you got similar I can highly recomend what physios call traction, basically they strap you up and stecth your spine to relieve pressure on the discs...

But the best thing for me was what i called electroshock therapy, im not sure what its called officially, what they did there was put some plate things on my back and shoot electricity through one and direct it to another the other side of the affected area. It dosent hurt as when the machine turns on it starts at nothing and very slowly increases and you stop it where you fel its right...

I have a condition where my lower vertabrae is slowly crumbling and I also have arthritis (which by the way I thought was a condition of old age but can be suffered by anyone of any age), so I do get a great deal of pain from time to time.

I will look into all the suggestions that you've all been so kind to make and I'm happy to tell you that this morning at least, the pain I was in last night has eased quite considerably thanks to a wonderful and warming massage my darling wife gave to me using something called "horse linament" would you believe lol?

I also have a doctors appointment later this week so I shall see what he can suggest as long at it hopefully doesn't include yet more drugs!!!!

Many thanks and as always Warmest Regards to all of you!!!!

there is definately some herbs out there that can help, the HNS are currently trialing it but there though be a guy in the local pub that can help ya *cough* *cough*

did you see the programme on tv the other night BD. it was about placebo's and the power of suggestion?

initiall it was talking abotu the valitidy of 'healers' who just wave their arms over your body etc and claim to fix problems ppl have.

they moved on to the power of suggestion and if this could be the reality behind 'healers'.

there was some major scientific trails/tests done to try and prove that the body is effective at healing itself.

one test was on ppl that had severe knee arthritis (iirc). icant remember exactly but i think there was 40 ppl and they were all preped for surgery,

but 20 had the operation and 20 didnt. all were anethetised (locally), cut open, however the ones who didnt have the full surgery watched a video of the doctor performing the surgery, while the doctors and nurses passed instruments to fit into the video. and this even took the same amount of time as the real surgery. so even the family members didnt know if they had it or not.

amazingly all the patients can all walk, run, dance and lead a normal life.

it would seem like very strong proof that as long as you can convice the brain things are ok, then it is convinced to. very weird stuff. i dont know if it was just a acse of pain releif as aposed to the body repairing damanged, but i know it gave them a new life.

sry dragging on here :/ but i found it interesting.

also gone off topic apologies.

interesting that acupuncture worked, maybe u can get your wife to train as a therapist hehe

let us know hoe u get on anyway BD

My mother has arthritis, so i know your in pain (even thoguh i cant know how it feels, and i hope i never do)

What is good for arthritis is heat! Nothing is better then heat (i dont mean you should burn yourself lol) and cold is a killer! Cold weather and suroundings will make your arthritis worse

So keep warm as much as you can and if possible take warm baths!

I do have a permanent knee injury though and i know a warm bath when it hurts helps alot, the water also put less presure on your joints etc which is good. If you dont have a bath tub look in your local area where there is a swiming hall that has a water tempreture at atleast 30 C, and swim there reguarly
