Pc parts questions

ok, 1st ive never built a pc before, and 2, i'm not too savy on the whole hardware side of pc's. now that thats outa the way, i was wondering if you guys thought this would be a good setup for gaming? any feedback would be great, i just want to know what i should get before i start spending my hard earned moneys

•Asus A8N-SLI Premium w/ DualDDR400, 7.1 Audio, Dual GB Lan, 2 x PCI-E x16 SLI, Cool-Pipe
•AMD Athlon 64 4000+ w/ 1MB Cache possessor
•Kingston 1GB PC3200 DDR CAS 3 Ram (X 2, according to my information, the motherboard supports up to 4gb, so i may just go with 4 lol)
•BenQ DW1650 16x16 Dual Layer DVD+/-RW, Black drive (x 2)
•Maxtor 200GB DiamondMax 10 7200RPM Serial ATA HDD
•ATI Radeon X1900 XTX (anyone know if this is actually all that better than the XT edition? if not, ill just go with the XT)

then i was gonna get a small cube case (i hate those towers!) and a cheap 56k modem (yea, im stuck on dial-up )

problem #1: it wont fit in a SFF case. u would need a micro atx motherboard.



dont skimp on ram either, get some good stuff: OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2

fyi too much ram is bad, 2 GB is the best ammount to get at the moment

1- Why get teh AMD 4000+ when you could get a x2 3800+ for lil cheaper or a x2 4400+ bout 120USD$ higher but get twice teh proformance.

2- Ram G.Skill DDR500 ram 1 or 2 gig

3- If going with ATI suggest a ATI crossfire Board otherwise you cant use 2 ati cards I am suggesting 2x7900GT's Nvidia

4-optional- If a hard time gamer get 2 Raptors at 10K rpm h-drives

basic a XPC center or tower is a minnie tower system, a lot of kids or gamers like using these tower it cut down what you can add to the system, but over all you only like to have the basic items to use.

if i was you i order a minnie (XPC) tower then check what type of gfx-card it will need or if you can add one into it at all. then order a DVD-DL writer and see what type of things you can hookup to it USB ..........ect

only reason is the case hookup nice and many option you can do with it,

only draw back is i seen all use Intel Chip

upgrade a more powerful USP 350w to 450w don't think 250w will do good and added in a GFX-Card and


AGP Slots 1ea 8x 4x gfx-card [open slot]


PCI Slots 1ea [open slot]

a PCIe 16x if a lot better, sorry smaller is all soo not so good

I would go for a AMD x2 4400+.. That's what I have now and it's well worth it for another $120 ( I also have the 4000+ ). I wouldn't spend your money on DDR500 ram tho, as current AMD's can only support upto DDR400 anyways. I'd get two 1GB sticks so 2GB total.

I'd also look for another motherboard that supports crossfire if you want to go with ATi, otherwise get a SLI board for nVidia. Abit has a very nice board out for crossfire, the AT8 32X ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127234 )

And you'll actually want a Mid Tower case because a mini-tower will probably overheat with all the power.. I'm having that problem right now when playing games... Antec makes some very nice cases, I suggest this mid-tower (I just orderd this friday): ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129152 )

You'll als want at least a 450w Powersupply. Do not skimp on the powersupply. You will get what you pay for, and if you skimp it will burn out and you will have problems. You also need to make sure your PS has a 24 pin power connector. This one has a 24pin and can also be converted to a 20pin: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937

Dunno the real diffrence between XT and XTX, although I think the XTX has 512 ram and the XT has 256.

a Thermaltake 680W SLI ready psu will do the trick but that is alot of power for upgrading and cool lights.

wow, thx for the input ya'll. though i shoulda mentioned im cheap lol, so the jurys still out if im gonna go with the 64 x2 4400+, for a extra $250 (c) its something i gotta think about, also, thx for the heads up on the case, now i gotta find a new one (was about to order it like 2hs before i read the "bad" news... think i may get a friend to make a case for me... depends if i can't find one i like lol
