DF:TFD punting

When I host a game, many times all the guys playing start to get punted. They stay in the game for about a minute or two and then get punted out.

One suggestion was to adjust the Timeout Box in the hosting options, but this didn't help. Another suggestion was when a guy joins, he should immediately begin firing his weapon a bunch (like a clip or two!) to let the game know that he wasn't being idle (again, another Timeout concern). I'm not sure this really helped either.

We've all patched our games, and I have DSL, so it shouldn't be my connection. It also doesn't occur with every map, just a few, but usually in co-op. I've wondered if it just has to do with certain maps that are big and co-op playing, like passing all that data could be loading down the networking capabilities or something...I don't know.

Does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks!

I have found that the new patch does not like certain sky settings. The half moon night sky is the worst. Try changing your sky and see if that helps. Ive fixed several of my maps by doing just that. Hope it helps ya. The Jerk

Make sure in your host options you have only tracers off and all the rest on that page switched on like scope drift recoil ect.That should sort it out if the sky settings dont that The Jerk has mentioned.GOOD LUCK M8


If your hosting above applies but if you join a game and you get punted ask the server what settings they are using and let them know to just turn tracers off leave the rest on.Then we should see a decrease in players getting punted

If you check the Novalogic knowledge base there is a small article that suggests that hosting will be a problem if your upload and download speed (of the host) are not the same.
It says that this is a problem with ADSL (not cable).

It may well be that this is the route of your problem.

The difficulty is the DSLs down and upload ratios are actually more unstable than cables anyway so from host session to session it would be difficult to predict what is likley to happen.

My advice would be to reduce the number of players allowed in server to account for any latency between your upload/download or get cable.

Wow, zza1pqx, this has been the most likely suggestion yet. I do have DSL, and my upload and download are VERY different (like 250K up vs 1.5M down). However, I do have a friend that has cable and he's having a problem with people being punted from his games too.

Many times, it's not the first game where everyone's punted, but the next games that DF cycles to automatically.

Raybiez, I have WindowsXP (Home). This might make a difference, but my friend with cable is running Win98.

Can you send me the link to Novalogic's knowledge base article on hosting?

We'll keep trying :-)


P.S. If it means downstepping from DSL to cable...forget it! :-)

I guess you are not UK side. The DSL lines here have a maximum speed that they will reach long before cable service does LOL

also small thing if you have a anti-cheat patch enable all player have to have it on too or have it instill player's with out it can't stay in for long they be in for a 1min or 2min.

if you do have this acp you should be able to turn it off

only if you have it other then that for get it ok
anticheat patch is good only if other players use to play in same hosting area
