I get around having stuff on the desktop by creating shortcuts... hiding them and then using shortcut key combos. So for certain programs/folders I just hit Ctrl + Shift + I and whala... don't have to search for it on my desktop or minimize all my windows to get to the desktop.

IMHO Win 7 is better... but yeah I like XP too, very fast boots now.

I use both regularly. From an IT standpoint Win 7 makes it so much easier to manage hundreds of computers.
