Broadband Provider

Today I saw on my ISP's site that 50 meg broadband was £28.00 at the moment I pay £37.00 for just 20 meg, I thought hmm something Aint right here after being with the company for nearly 10 years in which its changed hands 3 or four times.

So I phoned them up and asked if i could swap to the lower priced faster speed as it was £10 cheaper and faster than my 20 meg I pay for, The guy said no that is for new costomers only.

So I said I have to pay nearly double as 20 meg is now £20 for new costermers for the same service?

He said well you cant get it at the reduced price as its new costomers only, I said put me through to the department that deals with canceling my account with you.

Anyway I was put through and I explained what I told the other guy and how he said I wasnt intitled to the new price, so he looked though his system and said I can do you your whole package for £70 odd a month wich is £20 less to what I pay now.

So I said so if 50 Meg is £28 then Ill go for that as its still £10 cheaper to what I pay now he was a bit peeved at having to give me the 50 meg but I got it at the £28 price.

So what I am getting at is if your in the same boat, Just say you want to cancel your account as people are paying less for the same service you already pay for. I dont think they can Legally do it Im sure if it was reported they would have to give the same price to all costomers.

Anyway looking forward to my 50 Meg thursday.

LOL Hope you enjoyed reading that I hate reading long posts!

Sal.

Actually they can, if they do not send you a new contract you are held to the old one..
It's just a dirty trick to have people pay more for something that can be gotten cheaper..

Yes I see what you mean, But they cant really hold me to a contract that expired after the first 12 months, as I only signed a 12 month contract and I have never made another one. Maybe thats why I got what I did.

i'm with virgin media also. i think i started on 2meg for £17 which they said was a special offer. after a while it got upgraded to 10meg for the same price . after 12 months the price went upto £24, so i phoned 'em and asked why and they said the £17 was only for 12 months. they said that it was a limited offer for 12 months, and i then queried it because i was not told this when i first signed up. the rely was "well it is in the contract".... sneaky bastards, as if anyone reads all that BS small print in the contract.

now they charge me £2 to send me the bill every month :/

stupid thing is that 50meg + tv + phone is only £34 a month but 50meg on its own is £38/month :/ i just dont want the freekin phone or tv packages.

did you know Sal that if your broadband goes through the normal upgrade procedure (upgraded by virgin automatically say from 10mb to 20mb not an account change by yourself) then you still get the same traffic shaping as your previous speed received.

50 meg is completely free from restrictions and traffic shaping as far as i know however

just be glad you can get broad band....

I'm completely damned to using dial-up and a very slow satellite service for $80 a month......

If you are not on cable, are you sure your local telephone exchange can provide 50 Meg ?

BT keep sending me offers for higher speed connection but the exchange can only support just over 2 Meg. There is no point paying for a high connection if your lint can't support it.

The first 18 months I was connected to the Internet I managed to get for free. I just kept changing providers who offered free trials.

When I was with BT I just cancelled my contract once the 12 months had expired and then signed up again at introductory rates. (I have 4 free modems lying around somewhere)

At the moment I'm with TISCALI. Yes I know they don't have a brilliant reputation but I have never had a problem. My connection is the same as BT, doesn't seem to have any download limits (might drop the speed during peek times) and at only £14.99 a month including line rental, is considerably cheaper.

It pays to shop around.

When I left BT and changed line suppliers, I keeps receiving letters from them reminding me that it would cost about £120.00 to be re-connected.
Someone called me from BT to try to get me to change back to them and they offered to reduce the connection fee to £100.00 if I did.
When I pointed out that I would save the cost of line re-connection in the first 6 months, the guy went very quiet and I haven't been contacted by them since.

Pay £30 a month for TV, Phone and 12/18 broadband. Broadband has no limits, TV and Phone does not take from the 12/18 either which I thought was a fair price

I wouldn't mind you shooting at me, as long as you use a Barrett at point blank range, so worth it.
