mygamercard.net goes belly up thanks (or no) to Microsoft

Clicking it will take you to the site owner's announcement page.
So is Microsoft the bad guy? The guy running this site sounds like an honest man that's innocently trying to sustain a great hobby.

360junkies is going down, too. Does anyone know if this is Microsoft influenced? It's like they don't care about their community now that they have their income well established.

It was a hobby that became expensive. He built a service off a platform that Microsoft provided for free. The TOS made it had to get money from Ads and he couldn't charge for it. When your getting millions of hits a month, you'll looking at probably around $1,000 out of pocket expenses just for servers. We needed a dedicated server here at NovaHQ at our peak when we serviced 10s of thousands of hits a day. That was around $150 a month that was paid out out pocket. We got no support from NovaLogic.

I think the guy probably could have explored other avenues of revenue. When your getting millions of hits per month, you have a pretty big audience for other ways to make money IMO.

It's not if they got income now and is established, it's more about FUTURE income and getting more of it,...known in business as growth,

games to hand-held, has been a $5bill flop, they are trying to move to other areas to maximise return, prefer OUT of the PC but into the lounges onto the tv's in family units.

Some wait for xboxHD1080p x3 / PS4-6 built into the 55" led in 3d naturally much money to be made sorry Military FPS dated and growing old very quick thanks to falling returns at EA.

wait an see
