Black Hawk Down on XBOX custom maps

Alright, for kicks and giggles I decided to go out and buy an old Xbox 1 and BHD for it along with 4 controllers. 4-way coop is a blast and it's nearly 95% identical to the PC version save for a few items moved around here and there.

Knowing how the xbox can easily be modded, does anyone know if it's possible to get custom PC maps onto the xbox and expect it to work?

No idea but it sounds like a good project. You'll probably have to rip the cd to your computer, inject the maps and burn the cd again. I know there are also some ways to install the games on the hard drive on the original Xbox. That would be your best bet if you could figure out how.

I was doing a bit of Googling and found a nifty little Xbox ISO explore/modify/create application here http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules....le=C-Xbox+Tool in case anyone else wants to give it a swing.

I think I'm going to use this to get this project underway, but first I gotta mod my box into accepting burnt games.

Ok modding this thing is going to be the hardest thing. Not even about the soldering, but because everywhere I look, everyone is out of stock on them.

Well a wrench was thrown into my plans. I thought I was making good progress, too!

Ok, I couldn't figure out how to rip an Xbox disc ISO so I searched google for BHD for Xbox in ISO form, the only one I could find since the US version has no seeds was the PAL version...

No matter, I can still use the previously mentioned application to extract its contents into a folder. SHAZAM lo and behold all of the contents of the BHD for xbox disc was in a folder and it was eerily similar to what a directory in the PC version looks like! complete with the resource.pff file that I planned on assaulting with Fwo raven's PFF extractor!! Holy crap I have never made this much progress on an odd ball project.

There they all were! all the files that made BHD what it was. BMS files, til files, wav, wac, EVERYTHING!, and this was the xbox version. I extracted the BMS files, I knew what I had to do.

Everything was going fine until...

GOD!!!!!! this ruined my day, xbox BHD bms files can't be converted into MIS files. This is bad, this may be the end of my whole project.

The only thing that can save it now is after I get my xbox to run burnt PAL games, that plainly dropping in my own bms files straight from the PC version would work. That's the only way this project could keep going.

does Xbox bhd have an editor? can you insert the PC editor into the ISO? You could build from scratch?

No, the xbox doesn't execute files like that. It doesn't use executables like PCs do.

I took the DFBHD.exe from the PC version directory and dropped it into the xbox directory and ran it. It did the hardware test where it flashes the screen changing resolution and tells you what settings it'll be on, then did this:

Which the fact that there's nothing to click on is understandable because it didn't use this style of menu. It used a different menu altogether.

Seems like you have made good progress so far. I wonder what is different about the xbox maps. Maybe you should try to compare a xbox vs pc map in a hex editor.

Could it be a matter of syntax in the file, extra instruction sets?
The MIS file is editable.

// mission metafile, saved on 8/21/2011, 23: 6

begin general_information
file_version 2
name "Atol Run - CP"
designer "stomp"
terrain dfx53
cnv_file
tt_file
terrain_color 1
attrib 16777281
visible_if 0
notvisible_if 0
arty 0
water_level 110
water_color 9000
murk 80
fog_level 0
fog_color 0
I have had success editing AI in the MIS

And the bms is open to editing (this part out of my league)
