(PS3) Question regarding backwards compatability

If you are an owner of a launch PS3 (CECHA) I have a question for you.

After getting the latest firmware update, can you still play ps2 games?

From what I have read in news releases the new firmware will remove the backwards compatibility so that all the systems can operate at the same level.

I really want an answer from someone who has a launch ps3. Because its my understanding that some ps3s have software based emulation, and launch ps3s have hardware based emulation. The firmware might only disable backwards compatibility for the software emulation kind.

I went to the official sony forums and asked the same question since theres so many more ps3 owners there(obviously ). They said it themselves, launch PS3s (CECHA), even after all of the firmware updates (as of april 3rd, 2010) can still play PS2 games.
