RollEyes Waste of tax payers money...

Bill introduced by California Representative...

Rep. Baca's office has issued a press release on H.R. 231, including these comments from the Congressman:

Quote:
The video game industry has a responsibility to parents, families, and to consumers – to inform them of the potentially damaging content that is often found in their products. They have repeatedly failed to live up to this responsibility. Meanwhile research continues to show a proven link between playing violent games and increased aggression in young people. American families deserve to know the truth about these potentially dangerous products.

We must hold the video game industry accountable and do everything in our power to ensure parents are aware of the detrimental effects that violent games can have before making decisions on which games are appropriate for their children to play. I am proud to introduce the Video Game Health Labeling Act of 2009, and am hopeful my legislation can work to stop the growing influence of violent media on America’s children and youth.
...there is more violence in the news. Are we going to put warnings on there now too?

how does a young kid get hold of and play the game in the first place, they all have age ratings on them. shouldn't the parents be held accountable rather than the developer?

^ true that real life has much more or an effect surely?

It is a $5,000 dollar fine to a company for selling a game to an under aged buyer. Atleast that was the fine in Texas...

Yea all the games are rated. There's nothing more you can do.

Putting a warning that says they are dangerous to your health is absurd. I've been playing games since I was 4.

As I said there is more violence in the News per capita second than in video games.

Not to mention driving a car can be hazardous to my health...but there isn't a warning on my steering wheel that says you may die or be injured if you drive this vehicle.

I think the money wasted on this bill would be better suited going towards community advancement, or education.

you should all know by now this country never attacks real obstacles or issues. we would never point a finger at bad parenting, it always has to be the video game manufacturer or some other scapegoat.

the company i think you talking about a store that sold it to a child right? and not the video game maker!

1.) any store should be fine if it found to have sold a game to a under age child!

A.) if the child gone on a shooting and kill others or use the weapon in at all in real life and parents who gave the game should be charge for breaking the US-federal law and they should be put in jail!!

2.) parents or adult found to paid for a game and hands it to a child that the game was rated not to be play by said child they should be fine as will.

treat them same as any liquor license only with games license to any store wish to sell games 3d type that are rated adults

California love to come up with new ways to fine or tax its people to hell

Most all cars already have warning labels. I'm not just talking about the one on your visor either. Look on your door sticker or in the owners manual/pamplet. My car came with an entire book size warning manual.

Every product the company I work for sells has a warning label that has about 150 words plus two graphics that display samples. Do you know what we sell? Collated and Bulk Nails... The mouse and keyboard I use have warning labels. Most of the games i've bought have a warning in the manual, on the cd or on the box. Some titles even display a warning each time it boots up... My cell phone, my ear phones, my winter gloves hell even my mouse pad has or had a warning label printed on it or in the manual.

As much as I hate to say it, get over it. It's not going to change. Pretty soon there will be no room for cover art or product information. It will be covered with warning labels. You can thank the United States and it's sue friendly nature for that ****.
