Spotting in the BF2 demo puts enemies on the mini-map, and being able to give a heading in comms could help with players having different zoom settings. If you spot a sniper 500m out and your teammate is too zoomed in to see the spot, they at least know which direction to take cover from. Heading's actually useless for call outs in the BF2 demo 'cause I doubt there are any MP servers for it, but I find headings helpful for navigating in a vehicle. And if I ever get around to reinstalling BF2, I like knowing I can port over the mods. I like the way the compass ring looks.
In DFBHD, stating the heading the sniper is at and getting a quick distance with the binoculars is probably a little better than trying to guess which grid coordinate the target's in, I figure.
