I stuck a hd in that computer that had been in it before and booted t and a message came up I was loged onto a temp profile and all files created will be deleted from the machine so if I wanted to keep them to put them on a thumb or cd...I did this after the crash so I know windows is deleteing non permissioned files

If you want files from an old drive try this.

If the PC in question isn't working mount the drive internally or in an external drive enclosure and connect to any working PC.

Burn or mount a Ubuntu ISO onto CD, DVD or a USB stick and boot up, you'll then be able to see and recover all your old drive data easily.

You can then re-format your files and fix other issues...

re

well I lost one of my maps guess I will have to rebuild it...
something cleaned out all my maps from all my nova logic folders
and did this on 2 computers...I found some on a thumb drive and
some on a one drive I lost all those maps every where I put them on
diff drives in each puter...there's this Microsoft permission/ profile
security thing that deletes files
it thinks you don't own...and I am pissed off royally

Then you ware probably hacked or a virus program thought they ware virus or a failure in the MBR or file system. That Microsoft would go into your computer and delete maps for your Novalogic game is just too far fetched, even for a conspiracy theory.

The fact that Microsoft don't even bother to go after people using their software illegally should speak for this fact alone.

Microsoft does not go into someone's computer and delete files...the OS deletes files it it thinks they were created under a temp profile...its a fault in the security system that has not been properly programmed not fault as in a bug but faulty design...I stuck a hdd with a crapped out os not to boot it but to get data off it. and my fargon ice holin UEFI bios started booting it and I kept getting the message that I had logged on with a temp profile and files created would be deleted...and it cleaned out files on the supposed to boot hdd...

I had to go into the bios and take boot out of auto...

never the less I have started rebuilding the map...

The lesson here is to never store your essential data on the OS drive (usually Drive C) because Windows folder permissions and system restore may remove your data on start up.

If you only have one drive then make a partition. (This is an essential procedure as far as I'm concerned and I always do it)

You can make a Windows 8 account without email etc... though they "Microsoft" don't make it obvious, you can make an offline account.

BTW when you mount an old drive you need to change the drive boot-order in the bios first (before restarting the PC)

Usually the bios automatically places a new drive at the top of the list when detected, so move it to last in the list, then it will not boot up.

Try using a drive recovery program to get you maps back

thanks for the tips but I didn't save on the c drive I saved it on several drives and my one drive...and the bios is not supposed to do that tha fact that it does is a great example of S.I.P.... Stupidity In Programming... it is supposed to lock on the assigned boot drive...not wander around all the farm anamais...

OK... Get an external drive enclosure $10 (one that plugs into your usb port) put the drive in there.

Then plug it into your PC usb port later on when you are up and running in your current Windows OS.

After installing windows to a new HDD then hook up the old HDD to the same PC and if the HDD is recognized then use the security tab in the properties menu and take ownership of the old HDD and give yourself total admin rights to all files related to the game.
See if this helps.
