english humor

well, this is what i call "english humor", which is, in this case, a joke that actually makes you smile, but you cant exactly explain why. lets focus, here's the joke:

once upon a time there was a very short king of a very small kingdom, and all the people used to joke him for his height; once the king decided to go to a restaurant, the waiter politely asked him if he would prefer smoking or no smoking room and he chose smoking room.
the king made some effort to take his sit because of his short stature, and the people in the room became to wishper laughs and make comments about his ridiculous appearance, so the owner of the restaurant felt a bit embarassed, he didnt want the king to ill at ease it his restaurant, so he told the waiter to offer him something, while waiting for the meal to be served.
the waiter put on a silver tray a set of very expensive cigars, exotic and delicate flavoured cigaretts and went to the king to offer him one, but the king declined "no, thanks, i don't smoke", the waiter, a bit astonished, asked the king "why did you choose a smoking room if you dont smoke?", and the king replied "i can't stand people who dont smoke"

so, please let me know what you think about it, i personally liked this joke, but 99.9% of my friends didn't catch it or didn't like it....
