have to try to start> run> chkdsk /F /R C:
a new DOS windows will come up Press "Y" then restart your system count how fast your system run it will repair and fix any errors in the filing system index.

if power goes out this is needed to do.

defrag your HHD.

personally i disable the windows Xp auto-select it too buggy.

dell dimmension: Dell has a auto-update for your firmware (hardware drivers) and drivers. have you downloaded the Dell update scan software?

Cd / DVD drivers may need a new update firmware for it.

no there should be no trouble there at all.

there is one thing i think this may help last thing. turn the system off and unplug it totally no power going into system. let it stand there (15min) totally no power at all, after a time plug it back into a outlet and turn it on. this will reset the bios setting this may fix it. it may work and again may not, but it should not hurt anything.

1. Can you hear or see your CD-Rom drive trying to access the disk ?
2. Do you get a message asking you to insert disk ?
3. If the computer fails to read your disk, can you insert another disk and access it ?
4. Have you always had this problem with the BHD disk ?
5. Do any other disks cause this problem ?

Things to check :
1. Is your disk clean. ( If you clean your disk use a soft cloth, never rub in a circular motion)
2. Is your disk scratched.
3. Try re positioning the disk in the CD-Rom tray.

The problem might be caused by :
1. Dust & dirt in your CD-Rom drive. You can get a CD lens cleaner for a couple of quid.
2. Faulty disk. If you haven't had it long, try getting it replaced by nova or the shop you got it from.
3. You CD-Rom drive is becoming goosed.

As a last resort you could try using a no-cd patch for the game.

The BIOS chip is usually protected by a battery on your motherboard. You usually have to remove it or change a jumper connection but I doubt the problem is caused by this.

I had the same problem, about on month later I had to replace the cd-drive. Consider that, or try a no cd patch.

you can buy DVD/CD writer under USD-90.00

i got my Lite-on DVD/CD writer USD-74.00 at wal-mart i had to update the firmware but that was no biggy. Nero Tech help me to get it running right and told me were to look for the firmware to get it.

had to get a newer firmware update for this.

only a note:
be careful what firmware you get for it. some maybe newer but they maybe for windows 98 and not for windows Xp family. always get it from the MFG of the hardware and not some web-site they can mislead it saying firmware is general for all windows when it not.

my other Cd writer

had to get a newer firmware update for this one too.
