24 minutes between crashes.

Gotta hurry 16 minutes are up:

System reboots every 24 and a half minutes.

I've tried everything short of system restore or reinstallation. Can anybody tell me anything? I'm in this community and I trust you guys well enough.

Thanks.

Try using a program like https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html to read the C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP file that is created when it crashes. It'll give you some insight as to what caused it. NirSoft makes a lot of handy tools that I've been using for various things for years. if you use that tool, save the log and upload it here if you want. The log should not contain any personal information at all.

Think I got it.

So I kept asking myself, "What's this stupid crate doing 24 and a half minutes after every boot up?" I hatched a describably clever plan: 23 minutes after reboot, open the Task Manager and let's see what happens at the next crash.

And what did I see at the crash in the Task Manager after sorting the programs decending by CPU usage? Entry number 2 was:

*drum roll* *cymbal crash*

Norton Security. (To be read with an f-word at the start, end, and in between.)

And what happened when I attempted to uninstall it? Crash.

Deactivated the Norton check boxes in the msconfig, rebooted, uninstalled, and we've been up and running for a good hour now.

I'll reinstall it tomorrow, let Windows Defender take overwatch for the night.

Have I ever mentioned that I hate this planet sometimes? Do you ever root for the asteroid? Wish Ford Prefect was your friend and the Vogons were coming? Strangelet showers?

Norton was crashing my system, and they want to edit genes with CRISPR. I can't help thinking we should maybe not start hacking the most complicated operating system ever written in four billion years before we get Windows working, you know?

I better end this before I start talking crazy, yeah?

If you're on Windows 10 windows defender is probably better that Norton anyways. Check the av ratings. Defender is rated one of the best av on the market.

High Baldo, hope that was it but it sounded like an overheating CPU scenario to me

Crate's been running smooth as ever since I sent Norton to the bench. I was a minute away from reinstalling the system, too. I was just not up for that crap. I've got some life going on for the foreseeable future, so I need to be checking train schedules and weather reports, not rebuilding the Windows 10 domino paths/house of cards.

I need some sleep.

If you come back here's my view supporting some form of overheat as a possible cause.

I think that the AV may have overloaded the CPU or possibly the RAM as well which can cause heat to build up over time.

This can be quite a regular event once the initial heat has built up.

If it was a timed event I can't think why it would be that period of time - 23 minutes?

mmmmm
