My 3rd BlackBerry Pearl

This is now my third BlackBerry Pearl to die on me... I really like this phone but man it's got some issues. One of the small pins in the USB port broke and I could no longer charge it.. I needed to use it so I had to come up with something. Verizon no longer sells my phone and won't repair/replace it... A new BB phone from Verizon would cost upwards of $300 unless I wanted to sign on for another two years which I won't do.

I ordered brand new BB Pearl off eBay but it won't be here for a few days and I need a phone.. soo this my fix. Yes I have to walk around with the charger glued to the phone It works and the phone also let me back it up via Bluetooth..

Rip apart a spare charger I had

Break the phone apart to expose the raw USB connectors

Align the cable to the connectors

Hot glue that biznitch

that looks like hot glue from a glue gun rather than super glue... anyway you are now an official redneck!

Actually it's hot glue from a lighter and a glue stick. Yes I know that makes me even more of a redneck. I really need to buy am actual gun.. At least I don't use it out in public

lol wow ...i need to look at doing this too cause i broke the charging jack on my phone, also.

but why do you need to leave the charging thing hot glued on there? lol .. you can't get it to stay in place any other way?

It won't stay any other way.. I tried more then a few times to get this one to stick. Then I went overboard with the hot glue . It's just a temporary fix until I get my new one on Tuesday. I could probably mock up a prettier solution but I needed to use the phone quickly and in two more days the new one will be here..

I would have done the solder+new port if I had either of them handy.. but the only other ports I had I neede and I don't have a soldering gun .. Plus all that stuff would have taken awhile to acquire and then i'd have to learn how to solder with super tiny pins..

Just some removable insulation jackets for my......... water purifier.

I really dislike phones which slide or flip open. The flexible connectors are just a fault waiting to happen.
The bar style pearl was one of the nicest of that type.

Im not a big fan of phones with exposed keys on them... too easy for them to be pressed by accident unless you get a belt clip for it. ofcourse I dont use one for anything but making calls since I dont need any of the other functions. ofcourse if i was running a bussiness a PDA phone would be a must have but I would most likely have a netbook to easily jot down notes or check info.
