I served nearly 6 years in the Army as a grunt. My first assignment was in West Germany in 1985 (to '87) with HHC 2nd Brigade 8th ID(M) . A lot of hard work in that company but I learned a lot there too. Good people to work with and for. My next assignment was Ft. Carson, Co with Alpha Co., 1/12 INF, 4th ID(M). Best line company I was in, bar none. Another company that I worked hard but still learned a lot as well. Again good people to work with and for. I would trust any of those men with my life to this day.
I was also in a Patriot missile battery for a few months, never understood why grunts should be pulled to guard them. I returned to Ft. Carson and was assigned to Bravo Co., 1/8th INF 4th ID(M) where I remained until my discharge in '91.
I don't regret my service and do miss it at times, but mostly I miss the guys I worked with.
