for what game you talking about?
that you need it for DF2 DF:TFD you now what one you need
there are some cover DF1-LW and some do DF:TFD and maybe DF:BHD really don't know if there is one for it.
StevanB he may have to ask samething to what DF-game you need it for?

you formatted your hd and it still has files? Are you sure?

Usually a format destroys all information on a hard drive. I may be wrong, but i thought the info was destroyed during the drive integrity test part of the format.

I may be wrong. Usually recovery programs get stuff back that was deleted (in the case of windows, deleted and flushed) When DOS (ahem windows-whatever, DOS still lurks even in XP) When DOS deletes a file it simply removes the first character of the filename and leaves the rest of the file intact. (just like cp/m and atari did LOL) The deleted file will remain until such a time as DOS comes around and writes something else over it.(another file) A restore program simply slips the first letter (you supply) back into the filename. I may be wrong, but if you did a full DOS format command, i don't think there is anything there to restore.

As an aside, the Erase command still lurks about in DOS/windows. This command predates del and delete by several years and actually erases the file. I believe (it used to, but who knows now as much as DOS has been messed with.)

The files are still there unless you use a DoD type format or erasure. This type deletes/writes/delete/writes several times to ensure total removal of the file. Most formats/deletions only do as you said, remove part of the file name unless another file is written directly on top of that same location -then you need to get some of that EXPENSIVE HIGH COST software to attempt a retrieval and even that doesn't get everything most of the time.

Maybe if you gave an example of how it worked for another type of file we could understand what you mean. Otherwise I'm as lost as everybody else here.

Hi there,

perhaps you need the hex-values for "BMS" and "MIS". Also if i understand you right the chars translated to hex.

Well maybe it helps:

$42 $4D $53 = BMS
$4D $49 $53 = MIS

Im wondering what tool you use for recovering the data´s. IMHO is living death right when he means a format removes the data completly from the drive ...
except you have made a quickformat (this clears only the file tables)
