Hey that's cool! I may get a fairly old machine, quickly set up SUSE and put on PHP & MySQL unless it already comes with it, to learn some info that I'm sure will come in handy latrer on in life.

@sharp:

SUSE linux is an open source Operating system.

Never tried that one...

currently my spare computer is running Debian 3.? .

Its pretty nice. Installing software is easy, don't have to deal with rpm's like redhat

But checking out the website now, I may just download it and try it

Let you guys know how it goes. I might even try SuSe then.

Try CentOS 4 - i just installed it on a new server and boy oh boy is that a nice distro. Very very fast, one of my fav distros so far, and the best part is its based off of Red Hat Enterprise Linux

I use fedora core 4 and love it, i also got Linspire (Free cuz they had this offer) and a few others and love the hell outa my Redhat

Currently using it at as a router for my room
Data Storage
IRC bots
and general hacking/networking admin stuff as practice

its amazing what you can do with a nix system, and its amazing having a system only do what you want it to do. Just as good as windows if you get roms, or find a linux solution to a windows application

I've used serveral desktop and command line linux versions, like most of them but im a graphical person, unless its used for pure performace. So I use Fedora Core 4 for my current server (thats connected to myfedoraserver.com domain, but the server is usually down so you wont be able to see how that runs im afraid , but it was regarding SUSE anyways heh)

Fedora is very easy to use!

Also a commandline command that is one of the best to know is yum! Damn was a pain to do that stuff without it (i have no idea when it came, might just not have known about it.
