Gaming Death

A schoolboy has died after collapsing at the end of a 12-hour gaming session, according to Russian newspapers. The boy, aged 12 and named only as Sergei, lived in the Yekaterinburg, western Russia. He was allowed to visit the local computer club by his parents as a reward for achieving good grades in school. He regularly played for 10-12 hours at a time without a break, according to a club employee, who told Russian newspapers: "When this boy came last time, he felt quite good and played for [a long time], almost 12 hours.

"Then suddenly he fell on the floor and convulsed. We called an ambulance immediately, doctors arrived fast and took him to a hospital."

The boy was diagnosed as having suffered an epileptic seizure after he displayed unusual behaviour and failed to recognise his parents. He was put on a ventilator and died a week later, with the cause of death listed as stroke.

“Brain haemorrhage took place due to sustained emotional stimulation of the brain. The boy had overworked," said Alexei Sulimov, a spokesperson for Yekaterinburg hospital.

“He was practically dying in that computer games club, but he still continued to play. This was the result of emotional stress because he was obsessed with the games.

"Apart from his obsession with computer games he was a healthy kid and there was no reason why he should not have had a long and healthy life," Sulimov said.

do we know what game it was?

That is crazy and its the parents or guardians fault.. i sit on the pc all the time but i get up and walk around go outside for a few min. etc... but sitting there for 12 hrs non stop on the same thing AND on a intensive game is no good and the adults around should have pulled the plug if he would stop.

Plain Sad Loss

Sad loss of him

Sometimes you do get a little obsessed with games and your two sides of your brains goes overdrive but once you have to stop, you gotta stop. Play the games but then you need to have a great break and exercise. I used to do that. Did not like it. Just gotta be safe.

i don't believe a word of it at all, he had to drink something or maybe eat something.

most i ever got was a splitting headaches from playing to long for 10-16 hours none stop.

the doctor is a fool, he did not even try to look to see if the kids had a history or see if there was another course for it. he jump to close the case soon and give a cheap reason for it.

family who don't have a lot of money $$$$$
can't fund the hosp to look deeper into it.

only reason i can see the Russian school system would like no then better then close kids from these this games online.

its a cheap shot.

i feel sorry for the kid and his family and they being use in this manner.

I have read about 1 other death.. the guy played for 50 hours. He collapsed while playing and 3 hours after arriving at the hospital, he died. (source: http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/fun.gam...egameaddic.ap/ )

Also in that link is a reference to an August 5 death of a boy who died while playing. They don't say how long he played, but not eating or getting enough sleep contributed to his death.

I think it is more what happens because of playing that causes the actual death - Ie, if you play for 86 hours (as did an other guy who died), your not going to get much sleep or food.

that i can believe 50+ hours and not having any time for rest or anything to eat will do it.

12hrs i don't think it will do it.

Chief, it all depends on the person's well being before going on.
If you're an overweight diabetic it is very possible if you are sitting down for a long while.
