How do you lower ping

i got a problem my ping is realy high i have aol and everything i do does not help to lower it. If any of you people can help me I would be thankful for you help.NOTE:aol sucks

Get DSL if you wanna host a server. Cable is good but usually doesn't have the same upload speed as DSL.

But cable goes out all the time. If you're on 56k, getting "optimized" isn't going to help a whole lot. All that means is that the server compresses data before it sends it to you, and that may help web surfing some, but it's not gonna do a whole lot for gaming.

optimized only helps for web surfing because it causes everything everything to be cached on your system allowing for faster access. read the fine print and it will tell you that it only applies to surfing.

atholon......the standard DSL account that most people will get is 1.5down and 128K up. the standard Cable is 1.5 down (comcast it's 3.0 down) and 256K up. Cable is faster.

I've had my cable for over 1 1/2 yrs and it's gone down twice in that year. Reticle sounds like your cable provider sucked.

DSL is better when hosting, in my opinion.
I don't know much about other countries ISP's but the big company here in Denmark, TDC, delivers the best.
I have an advertised ADSL 2048/512 connection, now it's always a bit more than that, like 2072/564...all the time

I guees when it comes to cable (in Denmark), much depends on what company you get it from.
The company from where I get my TV-signal really wants me on their net too and offers a 4096/512 connection for the same price i give for my current. But it isn't steady. The speed goes up and down depending on how many users are using it. I think cable is better in some other countries.
Having a download on 2048 or 4096 doesn't matter. It's the upload that really matters and that's the expensive one.

Check out the prices in your area and determine what you need your connection for. But an upload of 128kb/s is the absolute minimum to cover ones needs in near future. Get 256 if you can afford it.
