Novalogic announced this via email today:

"Dear NovaWorld Account Holder,

In response to the growing needs of the NovaWorld playing community and
in an effort to improve services offered on NovaWorld, we have changed
our NovaWorld Player Naming policy.

Under the new NovaWorld Player Naming policy, player names will only be
allowed to contain the standard upper and lower case alphabet characters
(26 characters, a-z, A-Z), the numeric characters (0 to 9), periods (.),
dashes (-), and spaces ( ). Spaces are not observed at the beginning and
the end of the name, and multiple spaces inside the name will be
converted to a single space character. The name must begin with an alpha
or numeric character (a-z, A-Z, or 0-9). There must be more alphanumeric
characters than symbols in the name.

NovaWorld has been configured to help you convert your existing players
(associated with your NovaWorld account) from their current name (which
may or may not violate this new naming policy) to a name that does not
violate this naming policy. We encourage you to rename any player you
have that violates the naming convention soon so that you can obtain the
best names available. Once a name has been taken by somebody else it is
unavailable to you. Names that violate this naming policy by Tues, Jan
6th, 2004 will be renamed to a name that does not violate the naming
policy. Renaming your player does not remove any stats you may have
accrued by that player.

IF YOUR CURRENT PLAYER NAME DOES NOT VIOLATE THE NEW NAMING POLICY YOU
DO NO NEED TO TAKE ANY ACTION.

Our new NovaWorld Community site, which is scheduled for launch on
Monday, September 22nd, requires accounts to have player names under
this new naming policy. Please visit

player name changes on Monday September 22nd, onwards.

only: 0 thru 9, a thru z (lower charters) A thru Z.
and no more use of extry font charter's type be use at all sample:

For those of you that dont understand the email
You can only use:
"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 1234567890 - ." in your names and there must be more letters than spaces and no spaces at start or end of name and no multiple spaces.

yea like in have a guy name all space, other wise no name at all can be seen. anyway bet i know why they had to do this not going to say it here. anyway love the new rule

I suppose it has to do with the new community site that nova is gonna launch.

And yeah i'm also happy with this new rule.

However it may piss off some people. Suppose someone had an hex-edited name and wants to turn his/her name back into normal chars, only to find out that someone else allready took his name written in normal chars...
But then again, own fault. They shouldn't have started messing with that fancy ascii stuff in the first place

yep and NL may have trouble with finding charters name, so many look like to each other's or trying to see how it is spell out and had some trouble with that part of it.

Its for every novalogic game...

Its not the hexing that matterse its the taking out of the *'s {'s ['s ~'s ^'s etc - that are used in clan tags, this will cause a stir.

well that sux nova is good how it is they dont need to do anything else to make it better except get rid of some of the lag in nova games

Well being in a squad , and finding ourselves up against a wall on this since it will affect our squad tags as well as our battle tags just think if u have people in your squad that have the same initials(we do in ours 4 people)how will u know who is who?? it will create more problems ,and from my understanding of some players opinion on this issue ,they will go to other game manufacturers and buy their products , and trask can Nova , now i dont think these are the results Nova wants , but if they impliment this change ,that is exactly what will and is happining, i for one am calling Nova and have signed a petition against this STUPID ruling , its only reason for being implimented is because Nova wont hire 2 employees to watch the servers "after hours" and on weekends , that is when all the cheaters and impersonator cheaters are in the servers ,(i know this because i have had this happen to me as well as 4 other members of our squad ) and have been in contact with a few people at Nova support , and found that Nova doesnt want to pay overtime or have people watching the servers 24/7 , ,if they would allow this to happen then they wont need to do this name change , since it will just make it easier than ever for someone to steal your account or name , since there are no special characters to copy , now all they will have to do is TYPE your name and your hacked, well i for one wont let Nova or anyone else take away my name , it identifies me as a individual ,and it is also part of Windows Character Map , which means it should be identified as STANDARD font , if i knew my name was going to look like everyone elses i wouldnt have even bought the game , , this is a violation of our rights as individuals , it has nor will do anyuthing to stop cheating , which is what Nova claims it will do , ,the only way to stop or limit cheaters is to have people on hand 24/7 and hpone support as well 24/7 and to do regular updates at least every 3 months,,that is the ONLY way nova will deter people from being cheats, as i have noticed ,the King of Cheatz was banned on 9/2/03 well WRONG!! he has been in the servers from the 10th till present, they didnt ban his IP or his name (it is spelt exactly as it was before ) they need to ban names as well , and for that matter the King of Cheatz uses STANDARD TEXT , he has never used hexed characters , so the new rule has no foundation!!! all it will do is let the cheaters win and as a result we will loose!!!

yea for DF:1 & DF:2 its easy to copy other names, but for the new game don't think so.

anyway its a good call and bottom line Novalogic.inc can do as they please and they can change the rules as they feel like.

and yes you can buy another game software Mfg and play as you like to.
