maptypes and maptype mixes
Okay Ive made maps that mix types before like a CTF that plays like FB. An A&D that plays like a two team COOP. CTF that has an S&D theme(destroyable objects hiding CTF flags). A&D/CTF (hanging flags destroys targets). CTF/FB that switch maptype in middle of the game from CTF to FB
Recently Ive discussed with another mapper ideas like this which brought me to a spin on an old multi map type ZONE BALL The problem with ZONEBALL is someone running off and hiding in base etc with flag so basically the maps have to be confined I was asked by someone years ago to find a way around this I tried and failed, but put it in the back of my mind until about a year or two ago when working on ASSASSIN XAERO's map to them these streets belong which I had a part in, it dawned on me use the flagbays as barriers to confine just the flag not the players, the only glitch I found is you can roll past flagbay with flag, simple fix just use an elevated platform to put bays on(pitched 90 degrees). Another spin on maptypes is an idea from another mapper in which there is only 1 of each color flag at a time kind of like a FB version of CTF. Another maptype Ive thought of was one to teach some of the NOOB players in a CTF server I used to play in. to C HOW the money flags are easiest and generally best to get early in the game. The map idea would give points toward taking and holding an inaccessible PSP(can be used by, but not taken over by player), the money flags(harder flags)would be worth the most points toward taking and holding PSPs and the easy NOOB flags would be worth little or no points. I also thought about timing this so the money flags value went down and the NOOB flags where worth nothing for a certain amount of time. All the above maps or ideas will/do work. The PSP TKOTH CTF map I'm working on I might get it to work eventually but I'm giving it up on it for now in favor of the CTF PSP maptype which is a lot simpler, but I may make the bit more challenging version that times the points the flags are worth. I was wondering how many other mappers have dabbled or pondered on ideas like these? I know I probably forgot a few ideas Ill hear again and hopefully hear some new ideas. |
