Need advise

Have about 10 maps that i converted from bfm to df ext-so.
Question is:

1.tried to contact bfm boys -no luck
2.used their layout, but added people wac files, waypoints ect.
The maps started out as dm maps

but i feel a bad about using their layouts.

Opinions:?

Opinion: If you feel bad then it can't be right. (according to your own self.)

What should you do?: Mods are fair game technically.

Synopsis: There can be no copyrights to BFM, it's part of modding. It's someone else's material after all and in the first place.

Conclusion: You should try asking NovaLogic

Stomp is right, if it's a mod then it was Modded from a Novalogic product to begin with .

BFM holds no copyright what-so-ever.

And don't feel bad about it ... imho NOVALOGICs DFX2 is a MOD.

I would be careful about trying to host it on NovaLogic servers, what do you think?

It can be hosted on Novalogic servers just like any other mod.

The trick is though that the people joining the game must have the same MOD assets on their game as the host server.

For example if a host server is hosting a BFM map, then anyone who would want to join that game would also have to have the same BFM on their computer (and be running it) to join that game.

Believe me you won't be the first to mod them.
As for all the maps that i upload, if you can make them better go for it. I like getting in the events and wac's to see how things are done.
it' called learning.

I am going to assemble some mis files for upload if anyone thinks they can learn from them is a good point that I forgot, that's how I gained some clues, from the original sample.mis files and asking a lot of Q's from the very generous people here such as: Dave61 Chopperprop Skinny Dashie Mstenger404 Hellfighter Mermite 4rc28 grenadier501 SilentTrigger*MFA* Scott and Sam

and others over time, I was just kidding mate I don't need to mod your maps LOL I've about 20 odd maps in the works at present some conceived as far back as 2003

Guys be careful withe Bear Force Mod, I had a link to a post on the WTF Squad site about this BFM guy, who it is allegedly stole Sh!t loads off other members artwork of WTF, seems the WTF guys have moved on.

But I have had trouble in the past especially with many of the Blink Boxes associated with the larger models, from memory The Red Tin Shed, and the 10" cream container, many of the skins are done in low quality .tga's but can be re done in .dds format.

good luck

M

I'll stay vanilla in all games for my maps (I don't even do official mods or expansions like BHDTS, only BHD) unless by special request and I'd have to think about it because of the work involved.

Heh Heh big head? mebe. I wan't my maps to be available to the basic level players who can't afford or do not wish to run mods or expansions. I have them all by the way, everything novalogic has published but I don't hold much stead to expansions at all, new full game or it is a pain usually involving disjointed flow on from the original so it better to create them as new titles and not such as these disappointments EG JOTR to JOE and the above mentioned BHDTS with Jungle mod Terra Nova sg mod and so on

It's having to cram it all in the one place that also makes it harder to map distinctively and confusing, requiring long descriptive file names unless you use coded or key naming principles which is just plain redundant for a home user (not for a gaming company)

Contrary to, and I do believe it is an expansion but done correctly and released as a new title: Yes the one and only DFX2

Any artwork or such is copyrighed to the creator, doesn't matter if it's a mod of the game, aslong as they made it from scratch all meterial are their property and permissions from those iduviduals is needed to be certain you're cleared. Just to clarify

Sounds like you're missing som image files or something in your install when you get red x'es?

expantionpacks missing perhaps? (it was after all about 4 or so years since i last played any Nova games so I'm kinda guessing here )

Hmm regarding copyright, unless Novalogi has a paragraph in their license agreement that makes everything made for the game such as mods an simular falls as property of Novalogi, haven't read their agreement so it is a possability and then you'd only need N Inc's permissions

Red X's in your MED, means the item is not in the game(pff file) although their is a listing for that item in the MED, as we all found out ...
...WITH EVERY SINGLE NOVA GAME SINCE YEAR DOT...

you are now another frustrated Nova fan.....just like us!..lol

best tip i can give in make a basic map to use see item with a red-x on it, then save it nameless.bms and nameless.mis (map type death match or coop host it as lan), this way you go in to see item on the map.

2nd reopen map editor the main map you working on mis map on the 2nd page nameless.mis then locate the item and copy past it on the main map mis/ bms you like to make for all to use

then after you see what item you like to use that has the red-x to then

its been a super long time i did it, but that's was my favorite way to see items with red-x in the map editor image of them.

btw set spawn point some were outside the area were you have item at, then it be faster to get them. don't stack them on top of each other

to see the nameless.bms item start the game and host it lan get a closer look at them items with red-x

page one inside the map editor use for maps you working on and page 2 use for copy and past item from to page 1 ether page for mis map type

this all so a great way to test a map! see how everything going into place/ location on the map too

wire frame is a great tool to use! lining item with or stack them like flame on a smoke stack

Open the map in the editor and select a nul "X" item and choose Select this type and take a guess (people decorations buildings) they will transform to editable objects for you...

Here are a few images to assist
