Confused microsoft word

ok i have this problem with word

there are dots in-be-twen the words and there are thes reversd Ps at the end of ever sentanc.

can you help me?

oh ya this only start happing after i got the afgane oasis map and opened the breifing thing.

look for the symbol at the top that looks like a 9 hmm kinda like this: |P but backwards.

and click it.
all it does is show you where you have put space, tabs and pressed enter.

it does not print out like that

These symbols hark back to the days of early word processors.
In those days presentation of the GUI to the end user would have taken up far too much resources and so to make the production of documents easier, symbols were created to represent the various commands that had been programmed to make it easy 'at a galnce' to see what the document would likley look like, before the days of 'print preview'.

So ¶ represented carriage return (enter) and the big . a space.
Word documents are still formatted in the same sort of way but most of this is behind the scenes so you get to see things all shiny and pro.
The option remains but I dont use word processors enough to know why they would be of benefit.
