most likely they use the filter to remove some item ssi from being seen as they build the map
basic you click-on a item select this type to hide...this not word to word only what i can recall about it! there is a option to hide item as you build the map select item on the map right click to select to hide all this same type to hide, sample like a blue flag one right click-on it then select all this same type to hide so it be unseen but when your done and like to save the map all item will be seen as they play the game, only in the map editor all to be unseen have to be reset to do more work on items if you reopen map editor to work on the map again. only become unseen when you doing the work another sample in a house say you have 80 item in it and need to edited that area so you get to the item you need to move around a bet then the hidden option to get to it without the other over lay it, makes it easy to get to 1.) zoom in to the area you working on 2.) select a item you like to filter out then click-on select/ all select item to be hidden 3.) you get the item you need to work with zoom in number pad - zoom out, zoom-in number pad +

3d wire framing also is a tool that is invaluable, if you dont know how to use it let me know i can show you what i know and there are alot of mappers in the Thors Thunder Ventrilo rooms every week who are willing to help. Viper 77, Floyd Freak, MIA, just to name a few.

Layers are essential if you are stacking items above or close to each other or have
many waypoints and area triggers within the area of construction and operations. Always try to set the Group, Layer and Team for your items as you go. |

I agree, Layers .... it reduces clutter.
Layers gives you the abilty to turn off and on certain layers to see your map more clearly.
