those tutorials really didnt help, and one more thing, how to i put in a good fence? i need something like a tutorial on fences and walls and stuff, because i want to close in the zone or flags in some of my maps, so it will be a bit more difficult to get to..not completely close in just like leave an opening.

fence pieces causes frame lag.
I guess trial and error is the next thing to do (which is how I and most of the original mappers did it when all we had was Stevie B's Z Value list

take ur time...don't be overwhelmed!!!
the map editor isn't that hard really... once u start putting buildings/items on the map u start to see how the different lines make up that object. some have small edges that stick out from the main house like the ledge to the top of the citybuilding. u will learn to place these a tad closer to walls so that touch.
castle...yes its in 2 peices. wall and towers. just place a wall down. it will be facing north or 0 to start. then place a tower to its right. u'll have to watch the lines for these to match up good! look for a doorway on the tower and use the lines that would be where u walk across as the guide lines to match it to the wall part. remember the tower doorway is at an angle, not facing west or south but more SW. then place another wall down and rotate it 90%. but beside the first tower part. repeat these steps and rotate parts as needed. as far as knowing which way stuff faces just look at them, most start off facing 0 or north on the map, that would be the top of the screen. look for doorways so u know which part is the front of houses and junk. of course some doors are in the back also. hope this helped a little bit more. opps, i forgot about fences... just zoom in on the map to make these line up. the gate part also only opens one way so u'll have to rotate it to face the opposite way if it opens the wrong way. |

LOL! Take it easy Stevie
I kinda remember when I went though this stuff when I first started making maps in DF2 LOL Like Stevie said, you have to ZOOM in and view the piece, most items when you place them (before you turn them will be facing NORTH, walls should run from north to south (the long way) and all building/decoratsion/object/vehicles/people will also face north. If you go to the link I posted in the TUNNEL TIME post on this forum, you'll find a link to another forum (sorry Stevie ) that will take you to my tutorials, there is a part about ABSOLUTE HEIGHT in that first post where I mention how to make sure your fence (or anything else you place in a map) is level on an uneven surface - but don't place buildings on a steep hillside and expect it to look right LOL. If you want to use the FENCE you need to place a fence section then place the FENCE POLE at one end. THEN copy the both of them and then paste them at the end of the last section you put down, until you complete your fence. Remember to keep any building or item that you can climb on top of AWAY from the fence as people can jump across and outside. You may have to experiment (using the CQB character - it has the highest jumping range out of all of them) to make sure that you can't jump out.
