Map editing and boats...!
Hi
Appreciate any help with this. I've been making maps for a while and am slowly perfecting my technique. I can make choppers fly any which way. I can make road traffic behave accordingly. However. When it comes to boats behaving on water I am at a loss! I put all the parameters in as per helos or humvees, waypoints, events etc, but I will quite often see my boat riding around in a happy circle in the water and over land at the first way point....!! If I can master the boat my life will be complete. Thanks. John Tatters. |

Thing to keep in mind with making vehicles move in DFBHDTS is that each vehicle has several compatible AI textfiles, each AI textfile has different parameters, and some parameters in some AI texfiles are more useful than others.
Major factor for effective boat control is the turn speed. Most boat AI textfiles turn very slowly (about five degrees per second), so you have to adjust either patrol and combat speed, increase the distance between waypoints, or increase the waypoint radii. If a vehicle with low turn speed is going too fast and the next waypoint is too close and/or too small, the vehicle can get stuck in an orbit around that waypont. Use the tips above to fix this.

A few things add a bit of joy to my life, and I might draw up a list of them someday, but I can tell you now, "a reply from a mapper telling me I helped them fix something" will be in the top five, guaranteed.
