Windows 8 Tips/Tricks

Anyone have Windows 8 on their machines yet? Have you learned any new hot keys or tricks?

I am installing Windows 8 Professional on my new drive tonight. I'll try and post some new stuff once I've gotten it up and running. I am hoping my Windows Vista drivers will work on it...

I tried it for a little while and got annoyed by the metro style menu. I'll probably give it another short soon now that the RTM is out.

Amazon jacked up my HDD order so now I have to wait until Monday to try installing Windows 8.

I played with the RC in a VM but I didn't like it very much. It was very glitchy.

I also played with it in the VM. It was good but just not as snappy as i'm used to. Seems to be the way things are going though. Most people seem concerned with pretty effects over functionality.. Could be the VM though. I'll get my copy through msdn soon.

I'll probably see if I can get something through the DreamSpark program again.

I don't like the move towards the metro style start screen tiles and completely useless apps. I know, I know, we still get our standard Windows underneath, but I'm afraid of the direction Windows is headed. All this cloud stuff is going to kill true PC productivity.

Sort of how I feel about it.. As soon as we have PC's fast enough to handle daily tasks in no time at all, we move it all to the cloud which is slow even if you have a fast internet connection... I have a 50mb connection but digging though any files on the LIVE skydrive is just dog slow... Same thing with google apps.

Most of my co-workers don't even notice. They just can't work fast enough for it to matter.

It is pretty quick on the new i5's. We have them imaged in our lab and it seems to run great. I think they should have left the start icon on the taskbar though.

There is (I've read) a way to recover a Desktop of sorts and create your own Icons as before, info is scarce (by design) though. It's a matter of digging around and finding it.

Been pretty pleased with it so far. It takes some getting used to though. Took me a while to figure out where to shut the freaking computer down.

On a SSD it is very fast. I think on my old core 2 duo (2.5 GHz) it took about 10 seconds to boot. I noticed though... if you use their "web log in" to your computer using a Microsoft account it takes a while to log in and load your settings.
