Who wants to help dfhq

Well the time has come, we need some help. Me and stevieb both are very busy at this time and can't keep up with maps and all the news coming around. If you would like to help out just email me or stevieb. What we need is map reviewers, even a php programmer (maybe some $$ involved if you are talented enough). Maybe some news posters, etc etc. If you are serious -- reply, if you are not please do not reply because I do not have the time for it. Thanks for coming and any help you can give .

I think it comes down to what you need or what - not what I can do.
E.g. there's not much point in me coding a forum, when you've already got this fine one running.

Welcome camo.

Cause we are both busy a map db would be nice, one where you can upload your own maps with a ss, file and write your own description, it names the file and ss acording to the id (to make it easy on us) and displays them like we have now. You would have to be regestered on the this forum to post them cause there are kids out there that think it's funny to submit foney stuff. (Actually, I think I know how to make the regestration part)

Basically we just want it to be easier to update. Sitting down for 6 hours each day working on this site isn't working anymore. I can't even find a good 2 hours.

That's basically all straightforward for me except for the actual file uploading and the registeration part. I know a bit about both and I'm sure I could work both out without much fuss. Do you know PHP at all m8?

Know some php, but am alot better at editing it to my needs.

View the attached image for a better view of mine.

After you hit submit, the script renames the files submitted (the zip and jpg) to 1, 2, 3 etc etc acording to the id the script gives it. That also makes it so no 2 people can submit the same name and then there wont need to be a block on that. Files size for maps should be 50k cause when they are zipped they aren't usually bigger then that. Most are only 5. ss's should be less then 70 (I like them around 30 because I still think of the poor ol 56kers out there.) Pretty self explanitory, I just cant write the script. I have a special script that will only allow people to view the submit page if they are signed up for the forum. That way I can track Ip's incase someone tries somthing funny. (I will find it cause I will look though them).

Actuall on the form in the attachemnt, scratch the name part so they have to use the name they use on the forum.

Okies, been thinking about it a bit more.

You've already got a custom coded map db - I didn't notice that before my last post. Now, I'm not sure how it's set up, but is it in a mysql database? You simply need somebody to set up some more fields on the submit a map form - instead of just the .zip file upload field.

I'm assuming that you only get sent the map. All the other data such as map name, author, description, screenshot etc is all manually done by you guys? How do you guys enter this data in?

Can't the bloke who coded it from WAX Creations do it or is there some problem there?

We posted at the same time.

I don't think I can add anything of value here. Gets a bit too complicated and time consuming for me.

hes a bit busy right now and I dont want to bother him much. He did our other 2 map db's free (never asked to be paid). I think hes in school right now though. The latest map db is alot easier on us for adding maps to it. We just use a simple admin panel to add maps. But the ss's and desctiptions are done manually. We use the submit maps form to save us from getting 100 emails and it makes it alot less confusing. It just uploads the maps to a folder on our server and we download them from there and review them etc. It is done with a mysql db yes.

Ah I see that the ss may be attached in the zip and some info is included.

Anyway I'd set it up like you had in that ss of the admin area.
The user enters data into all the fields and that gets saved as a new record - including uploading of a ss and the map. You change what you have to and accept or delete it. It's hard to explain, but that's all you really need done - set up some more fields in the form - that's how you can cut down on the work involved.

This really should have been initally thought out.
